Thanks!
I was pretty cluey and marked all the eggs she was sitting on. I put some polish eggs underneath her and marked the day on the calander. So it shouldn't be a staggered hatch. Great tip about the water!
My lovely little silkie has hatched out 3 little chicks so far, another egg has a pip, and no action on the last two. How long do I give the last eggs? How long can chicks go without food, if the mum stays sitting?
Also they are in a run with a rooster and another hen, should they be okay...
I'm lazy too. I have dirt a dirt floor in the coop that I spread with dried leaves or straw. On bin night I just rack it out and dump it on top of the bin before taking the bin out. Then just spread new stuuf in there. I don't have ducks though!
I love my roosters! I was at a poultry auction, there was a young polish rooster no one was bidding on. I hadn 'to had chickens since I was a kid, I asked my 3 yr old son if he liked him, of course he said yes, and stuck my hand up and got him on the last call before being set aside. Husband was...
Golly gosh I won't try to incubate every egg, it's just the genetics that are making me wonder, like would this egg have a black polish rooster, or this one, a brown lacey hen? I guess I see them abit like an unopened present, what's inside! Yep we have a rooster, spike. He is a polish bantam...
It's at freezing here over night, so the eggs would get really cold once they have been laid. Would they still hatch?
I have just got my first half dozen eggs and can't come to terms with eating them. I keep wondering what the chick would look like. I don't have an incubator anyway. Or a broody...
I don't think the dog is more important than the chickens.
Op doesn't know what has been taking his chickens. How does he know it was this dog?
You can't just go around shooting things. This could very well have been someone's pet too. You do the best by your chickens, you know they are prey...
I can't believe it all fit into the wheelie bin! And that raccoon attack, glad we don't have those guys here. You will love the metal roof! I really enjoyed reading your coop story.
Yay! I have found some hens for our red rooster! Now to make a new coop for them all and i can pick them up!
Also our white and black silkie has found a nice home, he is going up be a rooster to a little flock of hens too.
Thanks so much! I may give it a go one day. When I was a kid the silkies would only ever hatch out a couple of chicks. I thought maybe if I incubated some too We might get more success. Not so keen on raising them myself. I am sure my husband would not be keen in chicks inside. At least I know I...
