Just wondering if anyone out there would be interested in some Lavender Orpington roosters. They are 4 1/2 months old, hatched them ourselves. We just have too many and I'm not looking forward to culling them. I'm asking $8.00 each. We live between Harrison and Mountain Home in North Central Ar.
Yes, Orpingtons are an all around good natured breed. We started with Buffs and now have quite a few Lavenders we hatched this summer. One thing we've noticed between these two varieties is that the Lavenders have more of a shriek rather than a cluck. It sounds like they're almost screaming...
I have 2 pairs of Lavender Orpingtons that I'd like to sell. They're 6 1/2 months old and the hens are laying. The owner I purchased them from said they were from the Greenfire Farms and Hink JC lines. I'm selling them because I decided not to raise and incubate chicks myself. I just don't have...
That's very interesting. My elderly neighbor said his dad used to have chickens that laid 2 eggs a day. Haven't seen one do it with my own eyes yet.
Glad you're here!
I haven't given or received a hug from a chicken yet. I've had one jump on my lap once when I was examining another as if to say "what are you doing to her!" I do know they're very interesting and each has it's own personality.
I've been reading on here that some notice a change in roos during their "teenage" growth. I just started with some roos so I'm still learning. So far the Salmon Faveroles, Black Maran and Silkie (all 3 months old) have been good with each other and me. It may be to soon to tell.
I live in Arkansas where it's a bit warmer. I've been told you should wait until they're all feathered out before they're left outside. That's what I did this April when we had some 40 degree nights. I also made sure they had planty of shavings and hay to bed down in if they needed it.
The weather has been absolutely wonderful! God has really blessed us this week. My chickens sure have perked up. They're a lot more active and happy. I think it was a little to soon for upper 80 degree weather, at least up in the mountains where we live. Going to make the most of the beautiful day!
Just curious, at what age will the roosters start that aggressive behavior? I have a few, but they're 3-6 months old. Wondering if I need to find them new homes?
Thanks, I was hoping that it would be a pullet. Out of ones I bought at the hatchery that was the one I really wanted for the chocolate brown eggs. I had ordered pullets from them and we made a special trip to pick them up. I'm disappointed, but he is a good looking chicken. Now I'm curious...
I have a black maran that's about 10 weeks old. Picked it up the day it hatched from the hatchery as a pullet with 2 cuckoos also pullets. It was the first to develop it's comb and wattles and the tail feathers are pointed somewhat downward. The 2 cuckoos still have small combs. Not having...
Congratulations to you guys! It's always a relief when you can let your babies out into their "Big Girl" house. No more stink, no more mess, no more dust! At least inside the house, that is.
That is quite clever, I'll have to try that. Mine free range during the afternoon, which is the warmest part of the day so they can usually find shade if they get too hot. Last year when it was 100 degrees for weeks I had a large floor fan blowing on them in their nesting area. Maybe, for an...
I'd keep them in a pen/cage where they can still see each other. I had to separate one out 3 months ago for 2 days, a BR that was second in the pecking order. The first day she came back into the flock the other 5 hens chased her off. She still gets picked on and is the last to eat. I don't know...
