I understand, i think the fact calls laying season is so short is not helping you at all. You need a young bird, clearly as well. Have you consider another bantam breed?
I'm sorry your having such a time, unfortunately, i am not even in the US... maybe in the spring you will have more luck, any rescues around you? it's hard i know personally my calls stopped laying ages ago, as a matter of fact none returned to laying after all the babies hatched.
I just meant i was hoping to gain a blue fawn drake but this isn't a drive thru you get what you get, so was happy to gain what i wanted, that doesn't happen all the time when your hatching your own, buying it is more controllable especially if you purchase birds old enough to know their sexes.
yes, chubby cheeks are part of it, calls are basically live rubber duckies... as per most birds, quality varies even amongst parents of good quality, i know within my own flock i have differences and none of the birds are poor quality, just varying in size and bill length.
LOL thanks guys. She never produced any young like her of coarse i don't have the right drake either i only have a grey, well okay now i have blue fawn one too but besides the point i am not even sure if the kids she hatched were her eggs as i had 3 females sharing a coop and nest hopping...
Maybe? i found my calls fooled me for quite awhile i so hoped for another mini apple yard and nope not a single one.. mainly all blue fawn, and greys...
That would adorable! i cannot let mine loose due to my bigger ducks and the rogue cats around this area, my cat tries his best to keep them off the land but he's only capable of so much.
Certainly different, not really other than herding i don't train mine but then again they are a portion of the birds and animals here, i simply don't have the time to dedicate to that but i can see them being capable of quite a bit they are quite clever little quackers.
