I went to a swap over the weekend trying to sell some of my excess call duck drakes and came home with 2 new baby ducks..They are Ancona ducks.
Ive always loved the colors of these guys.
They will be my first ever normal sized ducks. Ive always only had Bantam sized, mainly call ducks.
Id...
Im not realy sure what happened to Pancake. I moved him and his brothers to a bigger pen with a bigger pool and stayed out there and watched them get in and out with no problem...They were great for 3 days... Then when I went to check one afternoon I didnt see him with his brothers and freaked...
A feedstore in town just happened to have call ducklings.. Hows that for luck?? AND they are related.. They bought them from the same place I got my parent ducks and that Amy got Bean....Its more than double the size of this little one, but its a buddy and im sure it will catch up quickly....
Hi all... I am in Yelm, WA... I have a single call duckling hatching as im typing this.. If anyone is interested in raising a single duckling and would like to come get it, let me know.. I wont have any idea what sex and right now im not even sure what color it is.... Im figuring it should be...
Those were just the inside pets.. Outside we have 6 horses and a donkey, 10 chickens and 9 adult call ducks... One horse will be leaving us soon to the rainbow bridge. She has kidney failure..So im glad to have the ducklings in the house. They give me something to focus on at the moment.
And...
Yea. worry about them outliving me sometimes.. The cockatiel is only a couple of years old and I hand fed her from hatch.. And the quaker is over 20.. probably about 25... She has developed seizures, so I dont expect her to live much longer.... so far they are few and far between, but they are...
This is Viper.... Oh, did I forget the cockatiel and the quaker parrot??? LOL... I have way to many house pets... Now ive got the 3 ducklings in the house and I have 32 chicks due to hatch by weeks end... Its a VERY smalll house...
My daughter got a kick out of Wobbles chewing on her shoe laces.. She keeps asking if we can make pancake a house duck.. I said no... LOL... Not sure how well it would go over with the rottweiler, the husky, the pomeranian and the corgi.. not to mention the 2 cats, the bearded dragon and the...
This is my favorite picture of all time of any and all of my ducks. This is Cow and Rosie and their babies. They would co-nest and raise the babies together.
This is Flippy Duck. She was born a couple of years ago and I just had her put to sleep about a month ago. I had to assist her hatch and im convinced that if I hadnt, she wouldnt have made it. As it was, she couldnt stay upright for more than a couple of seconds for the first week of her life...
I have all mine clipped. For me, it seems they are much less flighty than when they were able to fly. I clip both wings also.
Where are you getting your new ducks? I recently got a pair of whites as well as a trio of wood ducks. That gives me 3 white hens, 1 regular hen, 1 regular boy, 1 split...
I do want the white drake to breed. Im just slightly concerned he will be pushed aside in favor of the older drakes by the girls. I do think one of the other older drakes is trio'd up with 2 of the white hens.... What I WANT is white babies... So im thinking of splitting everyone up and leaving...
Has anyone used anything other than wood to make nest boxes? Not for wild flocks, but for my own aviary.
Also. For Mandarins, I have 1 white boy, 1 split white boy, and 1 regular colored boy. 3 white girls and 1 normal girl. The all white boy and 1 of the white girls are this years hatch. And...
Not sure if this will help or not.. BUT.. when I moved my ducks to a new aviary, I clipped their wings... They still waddle away from me, but they no longer fly about, freaking out crazy. It gives me a chance to now sit in there with them while they swim and carry on...Its also much more peaceful...
I want to know what that little seed is in my eggs. Its NOT a blood spot.. Ive pulled them out with my finger and they are hard. Not all of mine have it, but enough do that it makes me wonder..
Does anyone have pictures of their mandarin and wood duck enclosures made out of chain link? Ive got about 145 feet of chain link kennel panels that I need to configure into a couple of mandarin pens.. I will have a total of 13 ducks. I need ideas on how to cover it also.. Not a solid cover...
