Caught an opossum last night with tuna from a can! Have been trying bread with no luck.... the tuna did the trick 2nd night out!
P.S. Chicken did work twice. The night before I got the trap and one night I did not set the trap. Now I have no Silkies.
Maybe you can put a cardboard partition on the main roost and put them there at night so they get used to the proper roost and are shielded from the big girls.
Do you have a rooster? When he takes interest, he will add them to his flock.
They may just remain flock buddies for a long time...
Originally I got chickens to save money on eggs.
Now I have a greater respect of how efficient egg farmers are. It is a lot of work and I can't come close to their cost of doing business. . . . . and some of them are doing such with 5 birds in a cage. I'm not going to pack mine like that and...
Had two Silkies and a Wyandotte that were raised in a brooder togeraterh. The three are all pals. The big birds don't like the Wyandotte, but they ignore the Silkies.
(I say had . . . because one Silkie missed morning roll call. . . . . there were about 20 Silkie feathers in the run. On the...
The best suggestion I've herd is a totally dark blacked out interior. Good ventilation would still be needed. The extra dark might slow down egg production.
If the blackout did not stop the crowing -- maybe it would muffle the sound a little.
Anybody have experience trying this? My current...
One would think they would learn from little shock collar -- but I think we are over estimating the intelligence of a rooster.
They have some amazing instincts - but to train them to fight instincts is a not go.
I would vote for the dryer as you can double, triple, or quadruple up and get...
Hay, if he wants to, let the rooster sleep in the old coop one night alone. I bet he will have a change of heart.
Lock um in the new coop. You may start to get good results after a day or two of lockup. Clean any food out of the old coop and entice them with some scratch.
Practice on your next bird after you slaughter it. The testies will be oversized -- but it gives you a starting point on where to find them without risking a bird.
By the time I eviscerate a bird, the guts are so jumbled up you can't tell what came from where. I also will have to pull the...
I had good results with Gallimycin-100 Injectable for 5 days. I think only the Gallimycin power is labeled for chickens. I used the injectable because I wanted to make sure each chicken got the proper dose. I had already tried Sulmet and Durimycin-10 which did not do much for me.
I used LA-200...
Just keep track of your feed and chicken only supplies. If you use any electric heat, you can estimate the cost. It would be up to the IRS to prove that your calculations were wrong (which they will be happy to do).
Anyway, After feed and other hard receipts, your profit should be minimum...
