I don't have any input for you but had to add you live in the same place as my sister!! If only everyone knew how small Spring Creek really is, they'd know how amazing that is!
I can pick up some chicks from the feed store I guess. We really spoiled the classes last year and I hate it that I can't do the same for these kids. I guess I should have lived with my snotty little rooster for a couple more months Actually last years hatch is what got me so addicted to...
I really, really want some serama eggs!! That is me being totally selfish of course. I hatched seramas from you last year and my favorite chicken is Chipmunk, my serama!! The other two that hatched I no longer have. Do you still do wildlife rehab? Some students brought me in a baby bird this...
Our open house is May 12. I candled today and was so disappointed. I have 3 out of 25 that I am fairly confident in. I hatched at home all winter long and was up to 80-90 percent hatch rates and now this. I am not controlling the incubator, one of the kinder teachers is ( I do the after school...
I have a strange problem and really hope that there is someone close to me that can help me out. I work in a local elementary school in Yuba City and every year our kindergarten classes hatch chickens for our open house. This is actually what started my love of chickens and led to my current and...
I don't think she is a roo. I think she is a pullet that is older than you think she is and is getting closer to laying so her behavior is changing. The comb and wattle will start to redden up a bit and she will tend to act a bit more territorial when this happens. My pullets are all bigger than...
I vote pullet too We tend to forget that it is OK for pullets to have red combs and wattles too. The size of it at that age as well as the overall look of her doesn't really scream roo to me.
I have two lamps and just use white during the day, red at night. The chicks seem to be a lot quieter that way and I am all about quiet chicks since I am currently sleeping in the same room as four of them!
Is she acting otherwise normal? Are you maybe not seeing her eating? If she is pooping, she is eating something Mine tend to eat a ton at night. Don't know why but they are nocturnal little snots
We all do things differently and that's fine. If you don't like the advice someone gives on the forum, feel free to disregard it. HOWEVER, I personally feel it is rude to put someone down or insinuate that they are in some way harming their chick because they choose to help them in a way you may...
I was really hoping you would say there was just the slightest green tint to the legs then I could feel fairly confident saying EE frizzle. Those puffy cheeks really do look like it. I don't know why it even matters so much to us. Isn't it funny how we will fixate on things like that? I have...
Here is what I would do if they are acting that weak. If you hold them up to your ear can you hear any kind of cracking or popping noise? Make sure the sound you are hearing is not their beaks opening and closing but actually a popping or cracking noise if you hear something. IF you do, I would...
The frizzling is a trait of the feathers. My frizzles are cochin x silkie crosses but i have seen polish x silkie frizzles. I was just trying to figure out what breed was in that frizzle??
The puffy cheeks almost look like an EE trait. Are the legs a real orange or do they have a green tint to them. I think a frizzled EE would be kind of cool. The four toes and clean ligs are kind of throwing me off a little bit. And what color is the skin of your chicks with the green legs? They...
SOME TSC actually do get silkies in. I spoke to my friend who is the general manager of a store out by me who told me that it is not set in stone that they won't get them. He was just out at a meeting in Tennessee and for some reason or another this was brought up. The stores have some...
Even if the adults dump the feed, the chicks will scratch and dig for it after the first day or so. I have four out with my five hens and they are fine. My hens are co-parenting and all four chicks eat, drink and are healthy. One of my hens dumps the dang feed about two minutes after I fill up...
If the chick is acting ok, at the very least that wound needs to be disinfected. If you have neosporin, try to keep it clean with that if you can. Personally, I would put some broad spectrum antibiotic in the chicks water to try to ward off infection. Others I know don't like to use antibiotics...
Here's my guess the big chick stole all the growing genes from your little chick. Your only normal chick is the one in the middle. The other two are mutants
JUST KIDDING!!
After seeing the size they were when you first got them it makes a little more sense, maybe. That big guy is older, at...
My black lab is a big softy, she has "picked up and returned" an escaped chicken once but never otherwise harmed my chicks or chickens. She is very nervous if she sees them where they are not supposed to be though
She will keep watch and make sure they stay in the appropriate place
My...
