Not sure if this is REALLY bad leg mites or old age. Feeling really bad beacause I think it is mites...Not all my chooks are friendly, is there any option other than the vaseline method?
Here is a photo of my 8 yr old isa brown hen. I thought the raised scales were just due to old age, now I'm thinking mites, and feeling like really bad chookie owner!
Noticed these red patches coming up on my roosters legs over the past few weeks, anyone know if this is a sign of disease? I lost a hen to a mystery illness last week wondering if it may be related.
Thanks for the support. Yes, I'm so worried about my broodies too. Will try to get my hands on some antibiotics this afternoon to have on hand. The other hen declined so rapidly though, I didn't have time to do anything! Keeping a very close eye on the rest.
Unfortunately she just passed away.
Noticed she had a LOT of fluid in he lungs, as it was really bubbling out of her nostrils when I picked up her body. She also seemed to have had a bit of diahreah today as there was a loose stool in the pen where she slept.
Still not sure of the cause. Hope...
RIP Blackie. Gonna miss you, you laid the best eggs of them all.....
Still, can believe how quickly it all happened. Fine one day and dead before luchtime the next.
Not happy!!!
She was fine yesterday, I found her under the perch on the ground this morning. She is gasping for breath, it sounds really raspy and her beak is open, she has clear discharge from her nostrils, and she can't move. Her neck also looks kind of twisted, and she was really quite stiff when I picked...
Do wild birds carry disease to chickens? My chook is seriously ill, and I havn't introduced any new chooks, but there has been a pidgeon trapped in the chook pen every day this week. Anyone know any diseases it may have introduced. Bit worried about bird flu, or do only water birds carry that?
She's all moved, poor thing, think she is nearly gone. Couldnt even move he legs back under her when I put her down. Finding it strange that she has fallen ill so quickly:(
I don't think she will last the day. She is getting worse by the minute. I'm nearly in tears whenever I check on her. Poor thing!!!! Don't think there would be much chance of getting anything down her, she can bearly breathe. I feel awful to move her, but I have another hen sitting on eggs in...
She is getting worse by the minute. I don't think she will last the day. I am worried for my other chooks, as I have hens sitting on eggs in the pen where she is laying? Any ideas what this could be?
Hi, I have a chook who was fine yesterday, but is now unable to get up, she is under her perch like she fell down, Her breathing is raspy, and she has fluid from her nostrils, and her eyes are half closed. Any ideas what may be up with her? I love this chookie, she is my favorite.
I have a 3 yr old Austalorp hen who was absolutely fine yesterday, but this morning she was on the ground under the perch, as if she fell off in the night. She has fluid coming from her nostrils and is breathing through her mouth, eyes half closed. She looks to be very unhappy. Please any info...
