I think they're very pretty birds.
Your roo appears to have nice size and overall shape. His tail angle might be a bit high, but that could also just be in this picture. I like the depth of his color in his plumage. He seems to be lacking the brown wing triangle that is present in Wheatens...
Your he's look lovely, several of them do have very nice color, especially throughout their tails.
Your male appears to have a split breast though, as well as a lot of White throughout his plumage?
Is he your only breeding rooster?
I'm looking for a breeder who has a line of Wheaten Marans without feathered legs.
Anyone out their breeding to the English standard?
Or does your line sometimes just throw clean shanked birds? Feel free to PM me if it's not something you'd like to discuss publicly.
I'm planning on using...
Anyone out there breeding Wheaten Marans that has a flock that is producing birds with clean/featherless shanks? Or even legs with very little leg feathering?
I'm guessing Bev means Blue Wheaten when she says "Blue tail Wheaten".
Splash Wheaten is also very pretty, imagine instead of a Black or Blue body a off white/pale gray body, sometimes with darker blue hues in the tail feathers. I'll see if I can find a image.
ETA: This is a Splash Wheaten...
I'd love to see some updated pictures of your birds, I remember them being very nice.
My one Wheaten Marans girl has been laying for almost a month now, she's giving me beautiful dark brown eggs like the one in the top left corner of this picture.
Budda's Birds :
Hey guys... its been while. It's great that the Wheatens got accepted by the APA also ots of beautiful birds on this thread lately. I happened to get a few good shots of my favorite birds over thanksgiving here they are...
Copper Marans should only be bred with other Copper Marans, whether they are Black or Blue.
Wheaten Marans should only be bred with other Wheaten Marans, whether they are Black or Blue.
Crossing the two varieties will result in mixed color mutts.
If the Splash hen you hatched came from...

They make a beautiful pair, do they have clean shanks?
Who did you buy them from? How is the hen's egg color?
Sorry about the 20 questions... they're just really nice birds and I want to know more!
