Well I guess I should say hello kind of fell off the planet for a while. Still have my birdies (way too many for a suburban back yard) and need to reduce my flocks. I have 1 -3 year old delawares, Pita pintas of various ages, a couple of buff orps (hatchery stock) and older CLB hen and EE/CLB...
Well did the near final shuffle of birds. I really need to thin my flocks down.
Delaware pen now has 14 delaware girls(2 3yr olds, 3 2yr olds , 3 1 yr olds and 6 pullets) 2 New Hampshire girls and a Delaware cockerel who replaced his father this year. (17 birds)
Pita Pinta Pen Sam (2yr) my...
Somehow I dropped off the planet here for a few months.
How is everyone doing?
I need to thin my flocks.
Does anyone close to Antioch (Stockton would be considered close) do processing of their birds with a plucker? I have about 7 boys that will need to be processed in about a month (6...
Looking for a recommendation for a dry cat (or dog) food to use as a protein supplement to my chicken feed. Ill dissolve it with the pellets and mix it together into a mash
Lost 2 young ones (5-6.5 weeks old) today and I think the one pita egg hatching under my broody del died from the heat and didnt fully hatch. Not eating hardly anything today but am giving them all the cool water I can. Ice bottles cool foot bath water Lots of shade. I just think the 1 brooder...
I have a 3 year old Buff Orp who appears to have laid 2 eggs a day for the last 2 days. The eggs are slightly smaller than usual and she had not laid in days prior to this and to my knowledge not 2 in the same day before.
I have researched and though not common it apparently does happen. She...
Baby chick is a good meal for a snake like that. King snake Id probably leave alone. I currently dont have a rodent problem and really only had one when they took up residence in the shed.
If I didnt have baby chicks on the ground I would probably have left them alone.
Its snake season even in town. Was just surprised with 2 4+ foot snakes in my back yard. One went under the fence to the neighbors and they caught it. I caught the other. I think they are gopher snakes not venomous ones but I don't take chances either way. Ill be "rehoming" it to the wild this...
What kind of chickens do you want in the end.
You can always buy a dozen fertile eggs from Trader Joes and incubate them. You want to get the newest date possible (look up hatching trader Joes fertile eggs for instructions on how to read the dates on the cartons) Its pretty hit and miss but...
They do mate for life after leaving the nest last night there was someone in it this morning when I opened the door. I think Im going to switch to manual open and close of the door while they are there. I have food and water in the garage for them if I have to lock them in.
Well she freaked and left the nest (and garage) as I closed the garage. Cant leave it open at night (too many cats in the neighborhood not to mention crime) I left it open for a long time for her to return but finally closed it within about 8 inches so they can get under if the want but I doubt...
