5 sex-links here. While they are great layers, they are a bit hyper. I will not replace with more when they are gone. I enjoy my Barred Rocks much more and are also great layers. Yes, my sex-links peck, even ME! I have the Red/White.

OK, I took care of it. There was/is a good wind today blowing in thu the South window & chicken door and out the north people door. SO, I got my lawn blower, released the girls & two boys to play, put on a face mask and went inside BLOWING. What a cloud but it is ALL gone now, cleaned it...

I thought this would be a good topic since so many of us, including me, are having trouble with Predators. Am I going to be the first to test one of these things? Help, has anyone else tried?

I had to separate two of three Red Stars from the rest of the flock. I have written before about their cranky nature and now they are picking at my other girls. Even tho they are some of my best layers they can go and I will not purchase Red Stars again. The calm nature of my Plymouth Barred...
Cute does not equal the Best Breed. I place my Polish at the bottom of my flock. My White Rock & Plymouth Barred Rock have the best personalities & rank high on my list. Then my EE's.

Rarely is there only one. Watch for it's brothers, sisters & parents. We had two teenagers a couple of months ago. Killed one because I couldn't get to it and caught the other. Relocated it across the river. Be careful, they have razor shape teeth and will use them.

We found with our girls the light at the beginning of the day did not help. We still have the light come on in the AM for warmth but add some hours of light at the end of the day. The light at the end of the day comes on BEFORE it starts to get dark and stays lit until 10 PM. At 4 AM the...
...pecking order), Polish (poor things are at the bottom of the pecking order & goofy), White Rock (Gentle, beautiful, mellow & BIG) & one Unknown (doesn't take C**p from anyone but not the Top of the order, loner but travels with everyone). AND they all stay to each grouping!

I have in cages. BUT the bottom of the cage has to be high enough so the chickens can't pick at the rabbits feet. If it is too low, the chickens will pick & pick until they draw blood. The chickens love to hunt for food in the rabbit droppings. I am talking about outside in the run! I would...
This is what works best for our girls as we have tried several different time configurations.
3-4 hours of artificial light in the evening depending on sunset. This is the light that seems to keep our girls laying.
AND
3 hours of artificial light in the morning with an hour overlapping...
