Is it possible that my hens can lay more than one egg in a day? It seems like when a few of them are in the nest I think they lay 2 eggs at a time....is this possible?
We went to court today and lost our case for our chickens. We have 20 days to file an appeal ( which costs$575.00) or we have 60 days to remove our chickens.
We don't know what to do, everywhere we turn we get shot down.
After about two weeks of laying I am now starting to find eggs on the floor of the chicken coop. At first they all were laying in the nesting boxes, but now they randomly are laying on the floor.
What shouls I do??
Does anyone use a kiddie pool to let their chickens jumpin/swim in/play in?? It's been a little humid here the last few days and I was thinking about getting them a small wading pool.
I bought a bag of oats last week because the rolled oats were sold out. Tonight I bough a bag of rolled oats and they look just like the regular oats except they were more expensive????
What's the difference besides the cost??
I had a small amount of leftover mulch and I put it in the run this afternoon and the chickens all loved it, they scratched through the whole pile. Does anyone else use mulch??
I saw the thread about refrigerated egg, but how long will fresh eggs last on the counter that are not washed.
Also, do you have to wash an egg before you crack it open and eat it?
One of our golden buff's laid her first egg today. They are all 1 day short of being 16 weeks old!!! We all had our first taste of a fresh and and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!
We will never eat a store bought egg again. Can't wait to have more
Channel 2 news in New York City is doind a news report tonight at 11:00 about backyard chickens. Check it out if you can, I'm sure it will be posted on their website after it airs so everyone around the country can see it.
GO CHICKENS!!!!!!
I have fed my 14 week old chickens a few peaches and pineapple rinds, they loved both of them but then I looked at my list of "do not feeds" and it says that citrus should not be fed to them but it doesnt say why.
Should I stop feeding them this food? and why is citrus bad for them??
Thanks
Well we got 2 summonses in the mail the other day and our court date is in one week from today. We have a chance to stand before the judge (hopefully a competent judge) who will read the law and see that the town is trying to enfore commercial laws on us.
Our petition is still online if you...
I saw on another topic that a child benefited from the fresh eggs of backyard chickens.
My son has an immune deficiency, would fresh organic eggs help him...is this something I can use in my fight against my town??
Thanks
Just had a meeting with the health officer, he said we are not in compliance with codes in our town. The problem is they are making the codes say what they want them to. They are really being unfair and almost prejudice....we then said we will fight to change the code and he said he's on...
