I grew up on a farm with a goat, horse, cows, chickens and one very ornery turkey. I currently live on part of what was my grandparents farm. I was going thru a tough time in life and decided I needed something to keep myself busy. Chickens were perfect because they kind of honored my...
I give warm oatmeal but I mix things into it. Leftovers, vegetables, diced apple or even just cracked corn. My youngsters didnt know what to do with it at first but when they saw the older ones diving in they did as well.
Most of our eggs are eaten here at home, currently I have 8 hens. But when they are at top production and we have extra I either give them to neighbors in need or occasionally sell them to a cousin who is health conscious.
I have several chickens who are escape artists, including my large RIR roster Don. Hes a great rooster, protecting his ladies and finding them food but he will chase strangers and even me sometimes. My Schwan's delivery man knows all too well to look out for him. One day I had a different...

Yesterday I made blueberry rolls. Just like cinnamon rolls but sweet dough filled with blueberries, butter and sugar. Topped with vanilla icing. Very good and different. My boyfriend loves blueberries so they didnt last long enough to get a photo.
I couldnt find it when I started out so I get Game Bird Flyer/Finisher and offer oyster shell. Now I see Tractor Supply is carying Purina Flock Raiser but I only pay $11 for 50 pound of Game Bird at my local feed mill as opposed to $16 for 50 lb of Purina at Tractor Supply
