I need to rehome my flock. We live in West Indianapolis, between Avon and Speedway.
I'm sure cross-posting is discouraged, but I need to move these birds so I'm going to risk the ire of the community. This is up in the rehoming thread as well.
I have:
3 years old:
1 Columbian Wyandotte

I thought I had read that they were pretty short-lived in general. I was expecting that I'd start losing them pretty soon. I only have three, and I don't think any of them lay eggs any more.
If she's still poorly tomorrow I'll probably put her down.
Hey y'all. I have a bit of a problem.
I have a hen, golden comet, either 2 or 3 years old, who started acting weird today. When I went out to the coop in the late morning, she was standing tall on her legs, but leaning up against the coop wall. She's not really standing or walking on her...
Welcome to the group!
I felt the same way when I started, and I bought my first few pullets at about 6 mo old. I ran into some health problems with them that I think I could have avoided by raising my own.
Raising chicks sounds scary when you haven't done it but it's really pretty easy...
Hey y'all! I haven't been around in a while and I thought I'd stop by.
I'm on my fourth flock of hens in about 10 years. My first lasted about two years I think, and was partially absorbed into the second. That group was around until the flu wiped them out. The third group I had for a...
I have a rooster I need to re-home. It's a silver-laced wyandotte I got from Rural King earlier this year. He's about 14 weeks old and had his first crow this morning. West indianapolis. I can deliver reasonable distances. Message me if you're interested.
I could take it home. Right now I have no chickens in my coop - that's a long sad story. But I don't really want to adopt a random bird. But I really don't know what else to do besides call animal control, and I can't imagine they'll do anything but put it down anyway. So I'm not sure how to...
This is a long shot, but there's a chicken in my parking lot and I wonder if anyone knows who it might belong to?
I'm at Girls School Road between Rockville Road and Washington Street in West Indianapolis.
If anyone knows anyone keeping chickens in this area, she's a RIR hen, been out here...
I guess brooder temps are probably my issue. I've set them up best I can, but it's not ideal; their brooder box is in the coop so I only have so much control. Hopefully with it being warmer this week they'll do better.
I think I'm finally ready to buy spring chicks. Does anyone know offhand a feed store that has white leghorns in? I'll call around the few in my area (Indianapolis), but I thought I'd ask here, too.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I found them! TSC in plainfield says they just got a batch in today, so...
I was at the Greenwood RK this afternoon. The tanks are out but no chicks yet. They said the hatchery isn't shipping due to the cold, but they'll have them as soon as the weather breaks. So sad that I can't get any for at least six weeks!
Oh, okay. It would be closer for me to drive to one of the hatcheries in Ohio. I'll probably just go to the RK in Martinsville; they have a really good reputation. ;-)
Couldn't agree more. I'm way ready for spring. I've been trying to get mine out at every opportunity, hoping to get them laying again. Silly old birds.
Hello everyone! It's been a while! ;-)
I'm starting to think about chicks again, and I thought I'd drop in and check out the list. I'd rather buy from one of y'all than deal with the post office.
Also, my sister is looking for a pullet or two. She wants a dark egg layer to bring some...
