Can I keep all my "extra" males together (without females) without them killing each other? They aren't old enough to process yet but they need to not be in my other cages.
I have 5 celadon hens that are 12, almost 13 weeks old and still not laying eggs. I am not sure why. I've never had hens that start this late. All my other birds have started laying at 6-7 weeks.
Any ideas? )They are getting calcium and 26% protein food. ) They live with a male from a...
I ordered some eggs online and they arrived today. The seller sent me so many extras that they won't fit in the turner for my nuture right 360. It looks like I may have to turn them by hand. Does anyone have tips or tricks for turning quail eggs? How often should I be turning them?
I'd hate to...
I have a beautiful quail hen that is about 6 months old that has all of the sudden started tormenting the other birds in her cage. They have all lived in peace for 6 months then suddenly she won't leave anyone alone. She pecks and chases them but so far doesn't draw blood. What flipped the...
My 3 week old celadon chick stretched up her neck and I noticed this hole/open area under her feathers. I have never seen this one any of my other quail but I guess it's something I could have missed once they feather out. What do you think? Normal or something to worry about?
Side note, it is...
I have a Celadon hen that hatched in March and her eggs ALWAYS look like this. She eats and drinks normal (the same feed as everyone else - gamebird mash with 26% protein)
She gets regular fresh veggies/fruits and gets crushed egg shells for extra calcium.
She look healthy but her eggs always...
I had some celadon eggs shipped to me but they were lost in the mail and now have a delayed arrival. By the time they arrive they'll have been in the mail for at least 7 full days (IF they come tomorrow).
Are they even worth incubating? Is there a way to tell if any are still viable? With the...
I have had celadon quail hatching over the last 3 days and they all seem to have really swollen/round looking back ends. I am not sure this is normal. Is something wrong with all of them?
2 also have like an umbilical stump attached still (after 48 hours) but are otherwise eating and drinking...
I had 2 chicks hatch overnight and one has this red thing down by it's vent. I thought it was prolapsed at first but I pulled her out and it's actually below her vent and attached to the skin. Any ideas?
My quail moved outside (from the garage) about a month ago and in the last 2 weeks their feathers started looking kind of rough. Anything I can do to help them look smooth and healthy again? What could be going on?
We added a new hen to one of our cages and then suddenly one of the other hens in there started making crazy sounds and attacking everyone BUT the new hen. She even injured a hen that she's been peacefully living with for the last 6 weeks. What's going on? I had to separate her into a "time out"...
I've been leaving a sand bath in my cages all the time but they poop in it a ton and it turns smelly pretty quickly. Do others keep a sand bath all the time? Or just add it in for a day or so each week etc?
We got 3 day old chicks 8 weeks ago and raised them to hopefully be very friendly since the day we got them. Of the 16 we started with 10 ended up being males. We have pulled them out as we found them and kept the "nicest" ones with our hens (1 male per 5-6 females in seperate cages) and still...
One of my roos drags the hens around by their neck/head feathers and chases them around constantly...grabbing any hen that is close by.
He doesn't seem like he knows how to mate well.... and the younger hens are totally not into it.
He's 6.5 weeks and most of the hens in there are only 4-5...
I thought I read that you can't breed a silver type to a silver type or it can be lethal. Can a pearl breed with a snowie or silver without the same problem?
Is that the only other lethal combo?
We came home from a day trip today and found that one cage had a male that was completely scalped by another male.... a 2nd cage that a male had it's eyes pecked out by another male.... and then as we tried to sort things out one male flew away and we never found him.
They turned 6 weeks today...
