Not really.
I flicked almost all the shell off & have been keeping the white thick membrane wet. There is a clear sack like thing between the white and the duckling. I can't open it any more because there are some veins still. Not sure what to do..
@Chaos18 & @DwayneNLiz thank you. I never had this happen before so was not sure what to do. I put a thermometer where I have the babe and its at 98° and humidity is bouncing between 55% - 65%. I am making sure that it stays moistened
Isnt shrink wrapped when the membrane is stuck to the babe? I could be wrong :) i am taking warm water and keeping the edges moist. I also have a damp paper towel wrapped around the rest ofthe egg.
So I believe I have a shrink wrapped egg. I would like to be as much hands off as possible. It was under a hen that started pecking at the egg so I brought it inside. If i keep the membrane moistened should it hatch on its own?
Long story short I have a broody chicken & gave her duck eggs. I dont remember when she was given them so not sure of their incubation date. I knew we were getting close by sneeking in a couple candlings. So this morning went to check and one had cracked its shell but didnt look like it...
Hi all. So i have a that went broody. I didnt have any chicken eggs to give her so i just gave her some duck eggs. I didnt write down when we gave her eggs so I dont know what day they are on. I was able to candle while she was off nest this morning and over half of them look like they have...
Have you soaked in warm Epsom salt for 20 min? My vet said to soak then try to cut the bumble out. Soak for 20 3x a day, apply ointment and wrap to prevent dirt getting in the wound.
I just picked up my first smooth sizzle, frizzle and second silkie Tuesday. And couldn't pass up 4- 1-2 week olds. Excited to see what they look like when they feather out!
I never got a notification that someone replied :/ I ended up taking him to the vet yesterday. It is believed to be a mating injury. The vet didn't feel any broken bones, xray was not a financial option. They told me to give him half a 81mg aspirin every 24 hours for 5 days, 2 day break, then 5...
From day one I knew that first one was a rooster. He has feathered feet, but I think he keeps pulling them out. Do you have any experience with that? He is a sweetheart but doesn't seem to like the ducks.
The second has the long saddle feathers & crows like a roo. S/he just started walking more...
@WalnutHill here are pictures of the 3 I hatched from the batch I got from you.
This one I am 100% sure is a cockrel. Our daughter named him Lawrence. He does not like ducks :/
This one I thought for sure was a pullet named Katie. But is showing signs of a cockrel. Will both crow and sing...
I have a drake with a swollen leg. I checked for bumble foot, nothing. His leg is not hot to the touch either. I had him separated thinking that would help heal whatever it is. Almost a week and still swollen. The snow here had just started to melt so he could of slipped. There is one young duck...
Some how our drake injured himself (probably because we were talking about culling him). I let them out and all were fine. I checked a few hours later & he was holding his leg up & using his wing for balance. I thought he just needed to rest it so I put him is a small sectioned off area in the...
