I have an eight year old Dewlap Toulouse Gander that has recently gone blind or mostly blind. Both pupils are white. One more than the other. He is getting by ok during daylight hours but having a hard time finding his pen as the sun goes down. Could this be age? Disease? Any experience with this?
I have a five year old pair of Dewlap Toulouse. To date they've only hatched two eggs. Both goslings were found dead. I think she stepped on them. Poor things were flat as can be. Other eggs I've taken and checked for fertility, but it's been more than sparse. I realize they need deep water to...
Anyone looking for a BCM rooster? I took in a rescue of sorts last year. He was bald, bleeding, and infested with bugs. It took forever, but he's all better now and ready for a fresh start. He's about 75% through his molt and gorgeous. He throws beautiful babies. They look like little bear cubs...
Anyone looking for a BCM rooster? I took in a "rescue" last year. Poor guy was nearly bald, bleeding, and covered in bugs. It's taken forever, but he's finally good to go. I am over loaded with roosters and the weather is starting to turn. He's currently in a chicken tractor and really needs to...
Keep me in mind if you have anything for sale this year or next. I was able to get a few from Holderread a couple weeks ago. He had some as part of an assortment. I'm interested in more though.
I have pencilled but I'm open to others. I especially like trout and gray. Please let me know if you're interested in selling eggs or if I can talk you into one more hatch :-). Things are just getting started here in Maine.
No sign of my nearly 4 year old dewlap toulouse going into season. The gander is in perfect temperment. The last three years I've received my first eggs on January 23rd. No sign of the season beginning here in Southern Maine. Anybody else seeing a delay? Late start to winter causing a problem?
Yes. The coop is very clean. It was uninhabited for months before his arrival. Cleaned and dusted weekly along with him. Perhaps removing the eggs is the way to go. I've never dealt with a case this bad before.
I took in a rescue rooster (of sorts). Seems to be about a year old BCM. He came with a heavy lice infestation, feather loss, and pecking injuries. I've had him for three weeks (separated from the flock of course) and have dusted him weekly with garden and poultry dust. His skin is healed, he...
Thanks. Al's only has pairs at the moment and they are young. I sent an email to Barry. Thanks for the help! Feel free to send anyone looking to rehome some smallish female ducks my way. He's haunting the others and I hate to pen him alone. They'll have the 48x48 garden space until they are...
Anyone in Southern Maine have bantam ducks for sale? My call drake recently lost his mate and he's harassing the runners. A couple ladies are preferable but I'm flexible. Maybe another trio? Quality and color are not important. Thanks.
Agreed. Any male I've ever had has caused bald backs. Bantams included. My Orpington/Marans rooster currently has 20 girls with him. Three are favorites and have aprons. Same was true when I had Doms.
It's still very cold here in southern Maine. Single digits overnight, teens and some twenties during the day. My dewlap toulouse has been laying for nearly 3 weeks. I've seen her lay at night and in the morning. All of the eggs I've collected from the nest are chilled, but not frozen/cracked...
Yes. One female. That's what I'm wondering. If it's like my gander, who's a bear in season, but sweet otherwise. Is that how it works with turkeys or is it different?
Hi Everyone. First time turkey owner here. We raised a pair of Royal Palms from poults this spring. They are mature and the tom is becoming aggressive. He's fine with me but not child or stranger safe. They've been living with the chickens peacefully until now. The tom has been attacking my...
Has anyone had experience with giant eggs? My Dewlap Toulouse will be two in May. This is her second laying season. Last year she did one egg in and egg. Otherwise, the 30 or so eggs she laid were normal. She's been laying every other day or so for 2 weeks. When she skips two days in a row, the...
Anyone have One Earth Farm's Citron Spangled Hamburgs? My info was passed on to whomever OEF sold their stock to, but I've yet to make a connection. I just adore the look of these birds. I know my banty Cochins would love to hatch a dozen come spring :-).
Are they free ranging or penned in a large area? Your chickens could be laying somewhere other than the coop for sure. Monthly worming and lice treatments? That seems like an awful lot. What about the age of your birds?
I've had luck selling my duck eggs on Craigslist and by giving a half...
