I use bog standard bark chips in my quail run in their eglu and straw in their house. I moved them into the garage for winter this year just easier and used deep litter in there with no problems was good for 3 months then I changed it only really cos was getting a bit too deep but smell was fine...
Mine love all types of berries, pomegranate seeds, sweetcorn, peas, cucumber, Carrot, watercress and rocket are some of my quails favourites I also give them millet sprays they love to peck at them

I had my quail outside all last winter it only get to about -5 c here in the uk but a lady on here has pics of her quail on her balcony in Montreal in -30 degrees c and there were fine just need protection from wind /drafts and rain they are really hardy birds
Mine love to dust bathe I use chinchilla dust bathing sand for mine there is always one in there I sprinkle some bird seed and mealworms in it so they have to scratch around to find :)
