I've been researching different feeders for my flock of 8 chickens (half are bantam size, half are med-large).
Some of my design parameters include:
- no daily visit required (no capping for rodent prevention, but coop is fully enclosed and has a 12" skirt of hardware cloth vertically and...
Hi All,
I just finished my chicken tractor/coop..and have been using it for about 1 1/2 weeks. However, my PVCfeeder doesn't work. When I move the tractor (daily), the vibrations of moving 'shake' a little feed down to refill what has been eaten, but not much. I'm assuming there is an error...
Hoping someone (plumber?)with PVC fittings knowledge might help with this idea...I love the PVCfeeders that fill the pipe with feed and end in a 90 or 45 degree angle for chickens to eat without spelling. I then realized that all the space above that bottom outlet is kind of wasted in my small...
Okay, I have a good handle on how the "PVC feeders" go together. I have 15 hens (hopefully) coming in April, so I have time to get these made. But, how many do I need?!? I want to do the ones in totes (I have lots of totes), but also think that having the tubes on the exterior would take up...
We recently purchased the rent a coop port feeder kit and it has been working great except we need something to cap the opening at night to keep mice and the like out. Any suggestions?
Hey everybody.
I watched a you tube video showing how to make a vertical feeder. I decided to use 3” pvc because I had some around.
What “fitting” should I use?
I tried it with a Sanitary T. Dumb idea Didn’t work.
So i went back to the store. I thought I might try a clean out. But it...
I’m in the final stages of building my first chicken tractor (complete novice). How high should my feeder be?
I haven’t glued or secured the PVC yet, so I can move it up or down easily. The top is about 8 inches from the ground now.
Question 2: Should I tilt the horizontal tube more so the...

Hello,
I am at the moment planing my first chicken coop.
I am planning on using an old insulated reefer trailer (approx 7m x 2,4m ~22' x 7').
I am also planning on putting in a wall so I have a storage area.
I plan to make the pvc-tube feeder refillable from the storage compartment so I do...
I tried to copy what other folks have done, but I musta done it wrong. The feed doesn't seem to move down in the buckets and the girls don't seem able to get at it unless I shake the bucket.
I used buckets from lowes, 45 degree 2 inch PVC. Pictures below.
My 4-inch PVCfeeder is molding near the top and at the bottom tee. It's under the tarp except about 4 inches sticking out for filling. There is mold around the top elbow and then down around the tee. It's very humid here, but everything is stored outside together so it should all be...
Hello All,
I'm in the process of building a no-spill feeder for my flock and have a couple questions. How many "ports" do you reccomend per chicken. I'm going to be adding to my flock soon so want to plan for the future. Say if I have 50 chickens how many feeding holes do I recommend? 10? 25...
Hey everyone! I have a question! We just got a awesome new feeder and waterer! We normally use laying pellets, but it seems this “gravity” feeder would work better with laying crumbles. What are your thoughts... Are crumbles better for the chickens? Who prefers pellets vs crumbles? Thanks!
...not too expensive, most of what I put out to feed my chickens was being dumped into the deep litter never to be eaten.
Solution: Small PVCfeeder made out of 2 inch Wye Sockets and pipe. I made two feeders and mounted them side by side.
Benefits: Very little waste with these feeders. After...
I want to make some of those no waste chicken feeders out of garbage cans and PVC elbows to protect my feed from the deer but can the ducks eat out of them? They tend to grab a bill full of food and throw their head back and I can see the pvc elbows messing with their ability to do that.
