    Worming (Fecal) and herding dogs

I haven 't been on here in ages! I have 11 ducks, 2 geese, and 2 chickens. Have never wormed them, but suspect they may have worms. Not sure how to go about collecting sample for a fecal? I assume all 25 birds would need to have samples collected? Any tips? Does anyone have a livestock...

    wing problem?

This is Mildred. She is my almost 3 year old Khaki Campbell. She has been through couple nasty bouts with bumble foot and come out a fighter (one tough cookie!) This morning I noticed her wing drooping. You can kind of see it from the picture. She flew out of the duck house this morning and...

    Marans and weather?

I am contemplating getting some black or blue marans (love those eggs!), but I wonder how they do in Pacific Northwest weather? Anyone in Seattle or Snohomish County, WA have marans? I have ducks, so chickens will be a new endeavor.

    Corn, oats, and barley?

I was given a new bag of corn, oats and barley feed. I know corn is not the best for ducks, but seems to me I heard they couldn't eat barley unless it was sprouted?

The ladies are going to kill each other! Hormones or something else?

About three weeks ago one of my hens (Mocha) starting attacking another hen (Mildred). Both are Khaki Campbells, purchased and raised together. Never had a problem before. I wondered if it was breeding time/hormones, attacking a weaker (sickly) duck, or just that Mildred is the drakes...

Maggie and Rose Petail or not? Curled tail feather?

My two new Magpie Ducklings are now 9 weeks and the their voices sound a bit gravelly. Was hoping for hens? refresh my memory at what age do the curled drake tail feathers show up? Also, they appear to be molting. Don't remember the other ducks molting this young. They just got their feathers!

Magpie ducklings with no markings on their feet?

Just got two (more) new Magpie ducklings. Unlike my older Magpies, which have Orange and Black feet (very cute), these ducklings have just yellow feet. Trying to remember if this was a trait that came with age or whether they had orange and black feet as ducklings?

    Ducks not laying?

I have three hens that are about 2 years old. They have always laid 6 eggs a week a piece. In the last 5 days I have gotten 3 eggs total. No major changes in food, housing, care etc. Has me concerned. Only major change is the weather has gone from 30 some at night to pushing 90 during the...

Couldn't stand it anymore....needed some ducklings?

I went to the feed store. Came home with some peeping things. Honest, they followed me home! That excuse didn't work. Spouse was standing in the driveway when I got home. If they just hadn't been Magpies, I could have resisted. And, yes, they were straight run, and, yes, I know better. But...

    Mildred and Bumblefoot

For those of you that assisted in the saga of Mildred and her bumblefoot last year, I am sad to report she has it again. Here we go again. Removed a couple of bumbles from both feet day before yesterday. Poor girl. She's such a good duck.

    Jerusalem artichokes

Okay, weird question, anyone ever tried to feed their ducks Jerusalem Artichokes? Cooked presumably. I have grown them and no matter how they have been cooked, the humans in our household can't eat them due to gastric distress. Wondering if it would be the same for ducks?

Laying time - they are waiting until afternoon?

My ducks have always laid their eggs well before I let them out into the run (7am-8am depending how dark it is). The last two days they are laying mid-day. Had two eggs in the tractor at 1 pm today. One has quit laying as she is molting (Magpie). Anything I should be concerned about? Khaki...

Ducks for bug control in orchard

I have been 'googling' trying to find some literature discussing using ducks for bug control in orchards. I find studies on bats for control of codling moth, but nothing on ducks. Anyone know of any such literature?

Mildred - there is life after bumblefoot - bossy though it may be! LOL

It's been almost a year since one of my ducks, Mildred, went through our first and rather nasty episdoe of Bumblefoot. Defnitely a learning experience for the not-quite-one-year-in duck owner! I received a message from Marty1876 this morning checking on her status, which was funny because I...

    Winter Feed Quantity Question

My ducks will be two in March, so this is the second winter I have had them. I recently changed from Flockraiser pellets to Del's All Purpose Poultry food in crumbles form of feed. Am supplementing with oats, and some dry cat food since a few of the ladies are molting. Have been giving them...
