Well we got home from church tonight and i went to check on our chickens as usual. i came around to the chichen coop/run and got mad... I found my rooster and all 6 of my hens dead in the run. That was upsetting. W what was even more upsetting was that the offender was still in the run. It was...
I was talking with my wife. She said that one of our friends was using DE to worm her chickens. She also said that she was throwing her eggs away for 10 days after treating the chickens internally with the DE. Is this necessary?
So, went to check for eggs about 3 hours ago and there was a hen in the nesting box. I figured she was laying so , i decided to come back later. Came back an hour or so later and she was still in there. I just went and checked again and she is still in there. Went to reach and pick up another...
So, we took the last 3 of our extra roosters off the feed bill today. When I was cleaning them, I noticed that they had small, light tan-clearish, bugs on them. Anyone have any ideas on what my chickens might have and how to get rid of them?
Hey everyone,
I have been talking with a couple other families here in town that have chickens. Wea are talking about getting together and geting a large (to us) order of cornish x's. Probably 100 birds or so. I have been looking at prices. I have checked mcmurray, ideal and whelphatchery...
So, we have our chickens. They are 23 weeks old now and just starting to lay. We are getting the hang of them pretty well. My wife is wanting to put in an order for a few more layers and some meaties. I said that if we were going to be putting in an order, that we should get some ducks as well...
So, I was wondering if anyone was breeding/hatching out their own cornish x's? If so, which breed was the male and which breed was the female. How did they turn out?
I would really like to give this a try. What I have read on the hatchery's websites isn't very informative about how they go...
So, we got our first egg tuesday from one of our 23 week old chicks. We were all super excited! It was cracked so we decided we shouldn't keep it for eating. Well this is 2 days later and we haven't got any more eggs. Since there is at least one right about that starting point, is there anything...
So, my chicks are 12-13 weeks old. I know I have some roo's that came as packing peanuts. Im just not sure how many of them there are. All the packing peanuts are going into the freezer once they get to be full sized.
Any way, I have a local friend who has some chickens. She already has a very...
So, my 8 week old chicks love thier run. Some of them love it so much that they don't go into the coop at night. THey just nest up where wver they are at. I go out there every evening, put them in the coop and shut the coop up.
So, how do you "train" your chicks to go into the coop at night?
I dont know whats going on. In approx 2 days we have had 4 chickens die. Im freaking out. Our chickens are 9 weeks. Fully feathered. I noticed one was really sluggish yesterday morning. Got home yesterday and she was dead. Everyone else looked ok. Got up this morning, 2 more dead and one not...
I built a feeder out of 4" thin wall PVC, a 90 degree elbow, and 2 end caps. I know quite a bit of you use them. My chicks make a mess using it. They throw the feed all over the coop. Do ya'lls do this? If so, what did you do to remedy the situation? Thanks
Hey guys. I bought some chicks from Ideal Poultry. They semt me my chicks and 12 others as packing peanuts. Over in the what breed am I forum, they think the 12 are SLW's. We are trying to figure out when to butcher them. THey are about 6 weeks old now and have been fed Purina Medicated start...
So, about 6 weeks ago, our 10 chicks were delivered from Ideal Poultry... along with 12 packing peanuts! They all appear to be the same breed... Just not sure what breed they are. Here are a few pics.
So, what do you guys and gals think?
I know alot of you guys and gals use watering nipples for your flocks. I have 22, 3-4 week old chicks and I have just started using the watering nipples for them. They are making a mess under the waterer. What do yall do to keep them from making such a mess and getting everything wet under the...
Been working and they shut us down today because of the wind at 5pm. Winds were 50-60 mph with gusts at who knows what. I thought "Great I can go home and hang out with my family." I get home and find out that the coop that I have been working on blew over. I haven't built the run and I was...
I just got my chicks in wendesday. I have been so buisy with work that I didn't have time to order the watering nipples until yesterday. So far we have just been puting a bowl with water in it in the brooder for them to drink out of. So, when the watering nipples come in, how do I go about...
Well my wife just send me a pic. She picked up our first ever chicks from the post office this morning. They took right to the feed and water! We ordered 10 assorted brown egg layers from Ideal... Box showed up with 21!!! Gotta love packing peanuts! Guess I will have some for the freezer in a...
