Good morning everyone. I am concerned/excited that we might be getting ready to have an egg? Our 21 week old buff orpington is the hen in charge. In the morning when I go out to let them out of their coop and feed and water them she is usually the first one out, all the other chickens follow...
I am looking for either Frizzle eggs or some color of Laced Wyandotte Eggs to hatch. I have looked on EBay and I also checked the forum on backyard chickens but I cannot pay $45 plus shipping for eggs. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not...
Hi, Everyone:
I am on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and was wondering if anyone knew of any breeders of frizzle Cochin's or just frizzles. I am looking to add a couple to my backyard flock. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can send me a message or reply to this thread. Thanks again!
So we set 8 eggs on February 10th and out of the 8 we had 7 hatch. We had:
2 speckled sussex
2 polish
and 3 silkies
They are all adorable, the problem is that I want to try hatching again but we live in the town limits and I can only have 4 chickens, so I do not think setting eggs again...
So my husband and I set eight eggs for the first time, and last night 2 eggs hatched and we have to chicks running around the incubator! This is so exciting. Besides my children being born I have never seen anything this exciting.
So here I am watching the rest of the eggs because we have 3...
Ok so this is my first having eggs in an incubator and I just checked on one of them and there is a pip in one of the eggs! What do I do now, when do I take it out of the incubator, OMG I am freaking out!
Today is day 19 for the 8 eggs we have in the incubator. My husband has been the one monitoring it and adjusting temperature and humidity. Unfortunately my husbands father had to be put in the hospital due to complications from lung/liver/bone cancer and my husband had to go to SC. So now I am...
Ok, so I am standing in the kitchen making coffee and all of a sudden I hear this noise. I thought it was my 1 year old crying so I stop and listen again, it was our cuckoo silkie CROWING!!! I am so upset, we got three silkies because they are my favorites and we already found out one of them...
So we are suppose to be getting two new chicks. They are both 4 days old, we are getting a buff orpington, and a Brahma. I feel sorry for my husband because he really wants a speckled Sussex but we cannot seem to find any in our area, and I refuse to pay $75 for shipping.
We seem to have...
Hello all. My husband and I set eggs for the first time this past Friday 2/10. We have read differing opinions on when the eggs go on lock down. I was told on the 16th day the eggs go on lock down but the instructions that came with the incubator said day 18. Which one is correct?
We have a...
Hi everyone. I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and we are interested in getting 2 speckled sussex chicks. I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable breeders in the area? I do not want to order the chicks and have them sent. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
I am extremely bummed, my husband and I are pretty sure that we have a rooster. We got our silkie chicks about a month ago and they were about 4 weeks old. Now they are 9 weeks old and my husband is pretty sure that the splash silkie is a roo. I am bummed because the splash is one of my...
So the weather is suppose to be beautiful today! I am debating on whether or not to take the ladies outside for the first time today. I am hesitant because I do not really have anything to keep them in an enclosed area so they are not roaming around the back yard. I would try and take them out...
So I am looking for any suggestions for something to keep my chicks entertained. I have three silkies in their temporary Rubbermaid home but I think they are getting bored. They are almost 8 weeks old and I try to take them out for a while every day so they can get some exercise, but I still...
So I was sitting there with my porcelain silkie chick and I was petting her. I had black sweat pants on when I put her back in her brooder I noticed that where she had been sitting on my lap there looked what appeared to be dandruff all over my pants? Should I be worried or concerned or is this...
Being new to the chicken world my husband and I gave our new additions some baby meal worms (my husband breeds meal worms to feed to the crested geckos and bearded dragon he has) any way we thought we would see what our Silkies would do with them because the breeder we got them from said we...
