We are in an El Nino in our area now and so my normally dry chicken run is a big muddy mess - I tried a search for materials to use, but couldn't come up with the right combo of words to find useful information, so I'm putting the question to all you wonderful chicken experts: what is a good...
I've found an egg open and empty in the nests several days in a row now. Could one of the chickens be eating the eggs or some other critter creeping in and eating it? The fencing around the coop could allow a rat or small mammal in the coop. Thanks
I have a Buff Orpington who has decided she needs to keep the golf ball in the nest very warm and periodically one of her other lady friends will deposit one in there for her to sit on too - but she hasn't laid in a while - when they get broody, do they stop laying eggs or should I be looking...
I found our Guinea's nest and wanted to add the eggs to a Kindergarten teacher friend of mine who is starting a batch of Chicken eggs for her class on Monday - can I add the Guinea eggs in with her chicken eggs? Thanks!
I found my Guinea's nest and then thought I would protect her and put up some wire overhead, but left a way into the eggs. she didn't go back to them tonight and is roosting with the males - will the eggs "die" overnight and not be viable now?
I had my Chickens attacked one early AM - one taken and one hurt over a month ago (it was my fault it happened, which I am still mad at myself for it).
The one was very badly hurt is eating/drinking and hopping around on the floor of the coop and even getting down into the yard (about a 2...
This gal (hopefully) is 23 weeks, has grown an impressive waddle and lately has been getting kinda aggressive toward me as I come in to check on a hurt chicken, mess with food etc. Could I be raising a roo?? Thanks

My coop is attached to the back of our garage and there is a good sized window between the garage that looks into into the coop.
If I wanted to increase the light for the chix in the coop to aid in egg laying, would the overhead light from the garage be enough? or do the chickens need more...
What causes less eggs: light or temperature? AND is it that production goes to zero or just less then in the summer? I'm still waiting for my first egg and hoping I'm not going to have to keep waiting until spring
I have been leaving a pile of girt for the treats the girls get and have been feeding them medicated starter feed, but now they are getting to be laying age - still waiting for the first little present . I also have grown Guinea males who share the space and they get into each others feed. SO...
I have 2 male adult Guineas and my sweet little flock of ladies, who will be moving on to Layer feed in a week or so. I didn't really want to keep buying two kinds of food - I have been getting Flock Raiser for the Guineas and will now be buying layer feed for the Ladies, would the Guineas...
I did a search on celery and didn't find any reference to it - and it wasn't on the treat list - is it ok to feed the leftovers from cutting up the celery - leaves, tops, bottoms etc.? Thanks!
I want to allow my chix to roam around the backyard and have limited free range, but I also have 2 full grown (several years old) male Guineas that roam the backyard.
Chickens are 5 weeks old
I have let the chix out into a run attached to the coop and the main Guinea has rushed the fence...
I looked and searched to see if there was a key to all the abbreviations I see about the breeds - some I can figure out - EE=Easter Egger, etc. but some I have no clue. Can someone point me in the direction of where I can find out what these abbreviations for for the breeds stand for? Sorry...
My Guinea got his foot caught in the fence and now he doesn't use it - will he survive if it is broken or injured beyond repair? He has access to food and water where he is right now. He can hop around and fly - just puts no weight on his foot. Thanks!!
I have a fenced in area for the chickens for when they get older, but the area is not covered. The fence is about 6 foot. I wanted to let my 3 week old chicks wander around during the day in the area, but was worried about them flying up over the fence - is it possible or not a worry until...
I went to the feed store today, just to get some bedding material and this Pied Guinea was all by his/her little lonesome, and looked about the same size as my ladies, who are now in the brooder, so he joined our flock today! Already I think he/she thinks it's a chicken! Anyone have any...
