So I set 2 Dozen eggs at 5pm Thursday April 30th. :)
I checked them tonight for hairline cracks and 8 out of 24 had hairline cracks. I really have to start getting my eggs somewhere else since my $$ is going down the drain due to the hair line cracks... So disappointed. Next time I'll get them...
So i realized the farm I get my eggs has directions on how to incubate eggs... here's what they wrote
Plug incubator and egg turner in. Raise temperature to 99-100 degrees F.
Let incubator run for 2-3 hours before eggs are put into incubator base; this stabilizes temperature.
Place eggs on...
I am wanting to give my 3 to 4 day old chick's lettuce or apples as a treat is this good for them? They are eating great so I was curious if I can give them lettuce?
So i have seen tips from set up to incubating stuff but i haven't seen a "how to clean an incubator" forum thread so I am starting one i think...
any tips on how to clean ? I'm cleaning mine today since all my eggs are done hatching.
The last egg that didn't hatch i didn't feel any movement...

I had 4 chicks hatch yesterday and thought originally 2 of my chicks had pasty butt but when i went to clean it off with water, i don't think it's pasty butt. It's in the bottom vent near the legs... I was going to say back legs but they don't have front legs. lol.
They are both doing...
So I just had a second chick hatch. :) But bad news.. It has pasty butt right from hatching. And even worse as I was going away from the incubator i noticed blood on the towel i have in the incubator!!!! can't be a good sign right?
what do i do to treat the pasty butt? every time i have hatched...
I am soo angry with myself . I totally forgot to buy food today for the chicks since the drive to the store is like 30 minutes away or so. That's my plan for tomorrow but is there anything i can give the newly hatched chicks to hold them over? just water?
eeek...
So I set eggs March 27th at 2pm. Does the 27th count as day 1? if so my 18th day will be the 14th.. If Day 1 is the 28th of March then it will be April 15th...right?
So last year I kind of bought a 10 lb bag from a feed store here in Northern New Jersey around the same time now, unfortunately no chicks had hatched leaving me with a 10 lb bag of food. I'm curious how long does dry food last for chickens? Can I use it? (Pics below) or am I out of luck (and 10...
So I have a few questions. I have a Hovabator 1602N and currently incubating 7 eggs. :).
I read about the red plastic things that are on top and was wondering do you do anything with them during hatch? I read that you are supposed to take them out after 10 days? I don't remember if I ever took...
So over night i went from 12 to 10 eggs and I just candled them and they all seem fertile. But i found 3 more with hair line cracks (all fertile). I ended up throwing them out because I heard eggs with hair line cracks can explode... Did i do the right thing or should i have left them in?
