Just wanted to see if there are any hikers out there that would want to share some of their past or present experiences, pictures and knowledge. The better half and myself have done the Catskills 35 high peaks in the summer and winter, we did the Cranberry 50, The NY Fire Tower challenge. Next...
Hello,
At the moment I have 2 turkeys that are about 7 weeks old. In a couple of days, I'll be receiving 4 new birds that at about 2 weeks old. My question is, can I put the 2 week old with the 7 week old? Will the 7 week old abuse the 2 week old?
On another note, 1 turkey is huge and the...
I have been raising chicken meaties for a while now and was thinking of trying some turkeys. We had a "home grown" turkey last year, and the better half love it. I have 2 coops for egg layers and was going to consolidate them into one. I was going to use the spare coop for the turkeys. Each coop...
It's just about the season here to harvest some horseradish. I grow ours in a little self contained plot. You can also find it along the road ditches.
I usually wash, peel and grind it with a little bit of white vinegar. How do you make it?

Any backpackers/hikers out there? We are hoping to get out this weekend and do a bush wack. We'll use compasses and topo maps. I have found some good maps that are downloadable in the PDF format.
If everything goes well we should be able to do 2 peaks. Most of our hikes are in the Catskill...
I was wondering if anyone could help me in identifying this doll. Upon my step grandfathers death I received it. He was a Chaplin in WWII (Normandy - Germany). From my understanding, he had it with him during his service. Some people said it might have been used as a "ice" breaker with the...
Tell me what you call a omelet. I have travel around a bit in the New England states and Canada and have come across a few variations of the way omelets are made.
Say starting with just a plain cheese one. The way I make it, is to scramble the eggs, when cooked, cheese on top and after a bit...
I was wondering if anyone has dealt/cooked/prepared a Johnston County Ham. One was given to me the other day and I have never prepared one. From what I understand, it is dried and salted. Do I soak it, if so for how long. It's a 10lb ham. There is cooking instruction on the package, but doesn't...
I found this sort of strolling across our driveway. I have lived in the general area all my life (Northern Dutchess Co., NY) and this is the first time I have seen this. Does anyone knows what it is? Thanks
I just received a nice new toy (a meat grinder) and I was wondering if anyone has a recipe for chicken sausages? I want to try something different with our meat birds. In the past I have had them,,,,,
Thanks
I normally wear jeans and a dark colored top or jacket when I go see my chickens. They usually will take bread or greens from my hand and I can always pet the rooster. Today, I went out to give them some bread and I was wearing a dress and they were scared to come near me. The rooster herded all...
Where do you hike? Favorite seasons? Hike with or without compasses? Winter hikes with snowshoes and/or crampons?
We are starting our first hike of the season today. We'll do the majority of our hiking from Nov. till March. We have noticed less bugs and people on the trails at this time. We are...
We raised 43 Cornish X Rock meat birds for the first time and have 9 New Hampshire Reds including one sweet rooster and 2 "bonus" birds that appear to be Easter Egger Roosters.
We actually couldn't remember how we came to the decision to get chickens and decided today that it might have been...
This is the first time I have raised Cornish X. At 5 weeks old they are weighing in at approximately 6 6.5 lbs. Is this about the right weight for the age? Or should I have the scale calibrated? Next week I plan on processing ½ of them.
Thanks
