Hello All,
I am sure this has probably been covered somewhere in these forums but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for! I have 4 hens, 2 RIR and 2 wyndottes, all 2.5 years old. They all look pretty healthy no signs of bugs or parasites. The wyndottes are moulting (they look somewhat...
Hi All,
I would like to let my chickens free range in my yard for at least part of the day. I have 6wk and 3wk old chick right now. So....my question is...at what age do I start letting them free range and how do you catch them when it's time to put them back in their run? right now I let them...
I have a four year old son who really loves his chickens...maybe a little too much. He likes to go in the run and try to catch them and hold them and love them and squeeze them! I think they have come to learn the sound of his voice. Tonight I was out there trying to catch the little buggars to...
I went outside and saw them dust bathing for the first time! (I know I'm corny but I thought it was cute!) They were all trying to pile in the same little hole. It was like a little chicken mosh pit! too funny! Anyway, I know you all have seen it a million times but I thought I'd share anyway!
Hi All,
I have read a lot of you compost and I am also considering giving it a try. I really don't know a thing about it though! I don't have a vegetable garden and I live in the 'burbs so it would be on a small scale. I would like to start a small garden next spring though. I figure I will get...
I am kind of thinking this little chick is a boy...it's about 2.5 weeks old and I noticed it's comb is a little pink and it's feathers aren't in as good as my other SLW the same age. Is it too early to tell? Am I just seeing things? Thanks in advanced for your opinions!
What do you think? It took us about 2 1/2 weeks and about $200 but we finally got 'er done!

This will house 2RIR 2SLW and 1GLW (one is possibly a roo so there might only be 4 birds)
I already put the chicks in there with a heat lamp. They are much happier than in the rubbermaid...
Hi All! OK.. I have 2 RIR that I got from a feed store 2 weeks ago. If the lady was right they would be 4 weeks old now. I have a Golden laced wyandott that is also supposedly the same age. I noticed a few days ago that my RIRs are developing their combs, but the GLW is not. The RIRs also have...
Hi all,
I was not sure which forum to post this in so I am posting it here! What about using kitty litter in the coop instead of pine shavings... the kind that clumps. Is this feesable? Expensive? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for your replies!
Hi everyone! I first want to say this forum has been most helpfull! we are new to chickens and we didn't realize how much we didn't know! I live in the Northwest, and am not sure about winter. I know chickens are pretty hardy (at least the ones I got) in winter. There really is only a few weeks...
