Some of my chickens are sick. It's not coryza as there's no foul odor... so I'm assuming it's CRD.
They've been separated for around 5 days now from the flock. They all got shots of Tylan 200 for 3 days. Though, I'm kinda worried... should I have used Baytril for this instead? We had the Tylan...
My Light Brahmas & my Cochins have yet to start laying. Could I possibly just be confusing the eggs I'm getting with some of theirs? They're all about a year old & the person I got them from said he wasn't getting many eggs from them. I know they don't officially mature until they're around...
Well, I got to know my newest 29 birds today. And I took some more pics, of course! They're still a little bit skittish from all the hustle 'n bustle yesterday, but I've already received two eggs... one fresh from our Big Bertha - she laid it just as I was going in to check on them! Anyhoo...
What breeds are these girls? Please & thank you.
Sally:
Harriet:
Big Bertha - is she a RIR?
Whisper:
- too small for a Jersey Giant & the wrong color legs
Flopsy:
RIR Roos?? I have a hunch...
Chester, my OEGB roo. What kind of OEGB would he be considered?
(sorry for the poor...
... can fit in a 10'x 12' coop (with a large run)?
I'm curious... since I've been going chicken crazy lately, I want to make sure I have enough room for them all. If not, some will have to go, unfortunately. But I'd rather have them comfortable than always fighting b/c they don't have enough...
I've been interested in McMurray, Welp & Ideal... but I was wondering if there is a good hatchery that is closer to me. Obviously for less stress on the chicks. I'm not looking to purchase any at this moment & time, but I like doing my research first.
If anyone knows of some decent hatcheries...
So, my BIL called me tonight & said that his neighbor is selling ALL of his flock!! I guess he's getting out of the chicken business! They're all very well taken care of & that's all I could ask for. Lucky us to have some family influence... the guy was going to post an ad in the paper tomorrow...
I'd like some ideas for feeders - for those that may have taken that extra step.
I'm hoping to somehow incase my feeders in something that will keep them cleaner & avoid them being knocked over. As well as easy for my chickens to eat from.
I'd rather not use wood for obvious reasons...
It's official, we've gotten our first dozen eggs!
I'm quite surprised - our girls just want to lay lately. We've only had them for 3 days... I'm impressed.
I'm thinking we must have a Welsummer hen in our bunch somewhere - one of our eggs is a brilliant reddish-brown & it's one of the biggest...
Must be willing to ship, please.
I'm not looking for show quality. These girls will be strictly egg-layers.
Need not be available now. I'm merely looking to find someone that would offer these breeds. I'm not seeking many at this point (about 10 in total).
Thank you!
I'd like to know what breeds produce eggs in shades of green. I originally thought EEs were the only ones that did this, but now I'm not so sure. I only have one EE (that I know of) & so far I've gotten 4 greens eggs in one day. Maybe I'm being naive that EEs are the only ones that produce these...
OK, so as I posted previously, I wanted to know whether or not I have some roos in the bunch. After furthur examination, these are the ones I have an inkling about, but I want to be absolutely sure before I take them away from the hens. I've already taken 2 of them out - the black Silkie cross &...
So, the hubby thought it would be fun to surprise me with a bunch of new chickens. Yeah, nice thought... except for the fact that we have such a mix of chickens I'm embaressed! *haha* Which leads me to a question -- is it OK to have such a vast array of chickens or is it better to stick to one...
Well, I figured since I posted pics of our calves when they were younger, I should give you an update on them. Those that we've kept having gotten quite big. I didn't get pics of them all, but it's a good start.
(note: we've just wormed these guys, so try to look past their sagging worm...
Here's my OEGB. I was told this was a roo -- yes, no? He had a longer tail feather that appears to have been cut by one of my other chickens. And I'd like to determine his color also. Lavender or Self Blue?
Also - here are my other Bantam boys. The one with the single comb is a Partridge...
OK, so I was told that my hens are Partridge Rock Bantams. I was wondering if they are all indeed PRBs. Their colors vary & I know this is common, but I just wanted to make sure... b/c I'm picky like that!
Chrissy
One of my favs - named her, Autumn.
Lenee ('Luh-Nay')
The one all the way...
We raise & sell little mooshies.... so we always have some coming & going. Here are a few that have graced our barn/pastures. And yes, I name them all & get attached to them all - I can't help it!

"Do you mind? You're kinda in my light..."
Aetna aka "Ett" -- Percheron mare...
You can't have just one! I've brought 3 into my life within the past year. I'm Boxer CRAZY!
Hubby says I can't have anymore... 3's the limit (or course, he said this with 2)!
Prada (born 1.14.07) -- my intro to the breed & the rest is history!
