Hello,
My girls have a huge coop, and inside of that their former coop, and inside that, their nesting box.
They originally had only their hen house, but we gave them more room. They are safe inside the big coop, so we left the lock off their hen house. They started sleeping/roosting ontop...
I had an issue with one of my laying girls jumping up and biting our pantlegs while feeding. It was her anticipation. I read somewhere to put hand on her back,(while she is in position for dominance). I also red to hold her beak closed, but make sure to do this action FAST. Well she stopped...
Our four RIR are laying nicely and are in a bigger coop. However, when they were in smaller coop they would 'cry' to be let out to free range or go to their playpen. Now they have larger coop and don't use playpen.
They start 'yelling' for me to let them out in the morning. I don't go to...
Our girls just started to lay. One lays at 8 am, one lays at 2 pm. Do we keep all of them in the coop all day? Can they go to their exercise pen, and do I make another nesting box there for the 2pm girl and the others that might want to lay? Is it confusing to them to have two nesting boxes?
I am waiting for our girls to start laying. They are 21 weeks on Sunday. I have put a 5 gallon bucket on its side mounted to the inside of their coop. I put shavings in there and a wooden egg. But, every day when I let them out, one of the girls has been in the 'box' and pulled out some of...
We are going on vacation for 5 days. It is good temperatures and they will have good access to food and water. My sincere concern is that being in their small coop for 5 days straight will make them stressed. We let them free range during the day now, so they will have no human contact, free...
I have 4 11 week old pullets that are piling crudely on top of each other. It is just chilly and they have only one 'window' for full air to come in. Are they too cold? Does this behavior last forever? They do have one long perch, do they each need their own perch? I have read some previous...
I can't find anything to say that we NEED to clip the girls' wings. They will never be alone to free range. Do we need to do this? I think of it as unpleasant.
We started to give 5 week old chicks all kinds of treats. Grass, sunflowers, potato, tomatoes, meal worms. Tonight their little crops looked full. Are they getting enough grit from soil?
Please help. We have 9 day old pullets. We also have pieces from an old coop. Are they diseases that can be passed on from what killed the chickens in the old coop?
