I have 10 chickens 3 months old and in their coop for about 1 1/2 months. Three will go outside while the other 7 won't have anything to do with it. How can I coax them out or what it they never go out?
My chicks are now 5 weeks old - how fast they grow! - and I'd like to feed them some treats but how do I know if they are eating the grit I put out? I sprinkle it on crumbles and have a feeder with it in, but haven't seen them eat it. Do I just assume they are?
just gave my ten babies two tiny earthworms and what fun to watch. at first they didn't know what to do with the squirmy thing, but then one picked it up and off to the races we went. they ran all around the brooder and chased the one with the worm, the worm got dropped, picked up by another...
I've read on this forum that ACV is good for new born chicks and helps prevent pasty butt, but then the other day I read it's not good for them. Could someone help me. Should I give it to them as soon as I get them or not give it to them at all. Thanks.
I don't know if this is where to post this, but for the second month, I've been dropped of the daily mailing list. It happened in January at the beginning of the month, and now the beginning of this month. Do I need to write to someone else? What do I need to do? thanks.
my dh is concerned that the deep litter method that I want to use when I get my chickens will spontaneously combust like a compost pile from the heat it might generate. I haven't seen any concerns of this sort on the dlm but could it happen? I like the idea of using it in the coop. Thanks.
I am doing research for setting up my first coop and I have read that shredded paper can be used. Is that shredded white paper or can you use shredded newspaper or will the ink on the paper hurt the girls?
Has anybody had any experience using a chicken tractor or know of pros/cons of using one. I've been thinking that when I get my small flock in the spring, I will have a permanent house coop and use a tractor for letting the girls "roam" without worrying about the coyotes and hawks get them...
OMG! I just read that chicks can peck each other and even their own toes, that it can lead to cannibilism. I have read that chickens can resort to this but even chicks!?! Has anybody had problems with cannibilism and if so what did you do? Thanks.
