Last night we heard a ruckus in the chicken pen. I went out to investigate and found a nasty coon.
I don't have a gun right now so I couldn't kill it. Instead I marked my territory all around the pen. (Thank God the neighbors were asleep)
Today I find my cat in the pen marking HIS territory...
I have a 4' high chicken wire pen, two of my new hens have gone over the wall. How do I keep them from flying out of the pen?
Will cutting thier flight feathers do it?
I need 8 to 10 hens total. If you have just a couple that is fine.
I don't care the breed, mutts are OK. I would prefer EEs, but only because I think they are cool. Needless to say reasonable prices only.
I have two roosters and one hen. The birds are about 4 months old, would like birds of a...
We processed 5 birds yesterday. 4 as game hens for Christmas and 1 for the cat.
The cat's bird had one bad leg when he was a week old so we separated him and nursed him along, then he lost the other leg. I figured with all the flopping he would be bruised and blistered but he wasn't. But I...
Yesterday I am sitting there, minding my own business causing harm to no one. My wife comes up and informs me that she is pregnant.
This will be #6 with a 10 year gap between.
Top three are my stepdaughters with a 9 year gap between hers and ours.
I already have 9 grandkids with one more...
I decided to slaughter 4 of my Cornish X next week and have Cornish game hens for Christmas dinner. The birds are three weeks old now and weigh between 1 1/4 lb and 1 3/4 lb and I am assuming they will be "close enough" come next weekend.
I went online in an attempt to find out how much they...
I watch this movie EVERY time it is on. It still gets me. Don't tell anybody the Trollkiller has a soft spot.
EDIT: Even if you absolutely hate the movie or have a better Christmas movie, feel free to post about it.
If you have a large male and breed it with a small female does the hen lay larger eggs?
Will the eggs the hen lays be big enough to accommodate the larger offspring?
With all the bad economy news being jammed in our faces, it made me wonder. If, God forbid, we go into a deep recession or depression, what breed or breed would be the best for extremely low maintenance for the return?
I guess what I am asking is what breed can you put in the yard and say "fend...
I was reading a thread that was discussing breeding chickens to make a better meat bird.
That got me to thinking that a breeding forum may be a good idea as actual breeding does not really fit into any of forum headers.
I am sure there are a few folks that would be more willing to try...
One of my 2 week old meat birds had blood running down her neck. I picked her up and she coughed up blood. I held her upside down and the blood poured and she started to expire.
I could see no external injuries, what would cause internal bleeding like that?

Somehow I don't think we could do that here.
I have two roosters, one is twice the size of the other (still chicks 4 & 5 weeks old). The little rooster keeps attacking the large one but not enough to do damage and it only lasts a second or two. The large one just looks at the little one like he is stupid and does not attack back. When the...
I purchased Poly-Vi-Sol to supplement my birds but I am unsure of how much to put in their water. How much per gallon for healthy birds?
I also have one meat bird that is weak, I have separated it from the others and I want to give him vitamins too but I don't want to overdose. How much per...
Ideal mailed my 15 birds on the 19th, we received them on the 20th. They were all healthy and cute.
They better ugly up soon or I won't be able to kill them.
