Could this be a worm ?

I noticed this hanging from my Roo this morning. I couldn't get close enough to grab him before I left for work, but I was able to take a couple pics and zoom in. Is this a worm? If so, what do I do ? Thanks for the help, ~J~

Help...please let me know what's wrong with my roo

I don't know how old he is because I got him last year from a farmer. But I have a silkie roo who is not doing good and I thought yesterday was going to be it. For about a week he has not been hanging around his girlfriend. He would be standing there and his head would drop as if he's...

    When they stop laying eggs....

I bought a bantam silkie last summer. I was told that she would start laying in the spring. She's never layed an egg. She goes into the nesting box every day for quite a while, but doesn't lay an egg. Then she squawks when she comes out like my other layers do as if she's announcing she's...

swapping unfertilized eggs with baby chicks under broody hen

My 6 month old hen went broody and has started laying on a bunch of eggs that have no chance of hatching. I have 25 baby chicks coming from TSC later this week...can I switch the eggs with the babies? Has anyone successfully done that? Is 25 too much to ask of her to take care of?

    Ordering Barley online for fodder...

Is $40 (includes shipping) for a 50 lb. bag of "Whole Organic Barley" a good price? This is what I need for fodder, correct? There's no stores around me that sells it. Thanks, ~J~

what don't chicks mix with adults

One of my hens hatched out 4 babies Nov 11 and has been a great mom. I never separated her and the babies from the rest of our flock. Since they hatched she's been with them and not the rest of the flock. She taught them to roost under her on the roosting bar, away from the birds, and stayed...

broody hen pooped in nest while chicks hatching

Today was hatch day for my broody. I checked on her tonite and she pooped a huge poop in the nest where the babies just hatched. It stunk up the whole coop and I had to leave cause it was making me sick. Is that normal? Also, I can never catch her off the nest...I'm dying to know how many...

What should I do once they start to hatch?

I'm new to broody hens, but read sometimes if you move them to another location, they won't sit on the eggs. Thus far, my SLW has been sitting on 10 eggs in the corner of the coop where all my other 4 ladies lay. Every day, the other hens plop down on top of her and lay their egg and then at...

eating eggs that are under broody hen

My husband just read in a magazine that if a broody hen has been sitting on freshly layed eggs for a couple hours then they are not edible. My hen is broody and sitting on her 10 marked eggs and the others lay in her nest during the day. At night I go in and get that days eggs out from under...

    where do they lay when...

All my hens lay in the same nesting box. One has been in there since I got home from work, so I can't see if there are any eggs in there. But what happens if she's gone broody and won't get out? Where will the others lay?
