    stil missing feathers

Back in May I posted pics of my girls behinds and back where they were missing all of their feathers. Well they are still missing them. And I really don't know what else to do. I have no where to keep them separated from the ones that aren't missing any. Which is less than half of them. I...

    missing feathers

I am totally clueless. I thought this was mites or lice. I have treated them , hosed and scrubbed their coop from top to bottom. I have tried DE, 7 dust, and medicine. Nothing is working. I figured it was mites cuz we had soooo much rain for the last 4 or 5 mths. But I have not found any on...

I use shavings for the girls inside of house for bedding and on the floor. But my question is can I put pine straw outside in their yard because of the rain we have had the yard is so muddy and starting to stink.

    Young ones and big ones

I have 12 adult girls and 16 girls that are 9 weeks old. The babies are in the yard but separated from the older girls but they can all see each other. Today when I came home from work one of the babies was out of her area (no idea how) and with the big girls. The big girls didn't seem to...

Hens dying and not sure why????

In the last couple months I have lost 5 girls. One being my favorite. I have no clue why. They seem fine one day and then they start looking bad. Their crops are fine and I don't feel any eggs like if they are egg bound. But their combs get very light color and they get kinda lifeless and...

I have 17 - 2yr old girls. Last year they all laid eggs almost everyday. For some reason this year so far I get anywhere from 6 to 9. Every now and then I will get 11. I have not changed anything as far as diet. We wormed and de mited them just as a precaution recently. They get yogurt...

    Soft Water and other questions

Wondering if anyone knew if soft water could cause diarrhea in a few of my girls. Other than that they seem fine. Where we live first of all it is Well water and then it is very very very soft water. Not really sure what I could do to change that if it is the cause other than bottle water for...

    Dee's Chicks Coop

We built this coop last year from what was left of a utility shed that had been relocated half up on a tree stump during Hurricane Katrina. When you see the window inside it is actual level and that is how un-level the house is. I put in a new floor covered it in linoleum square for easy...

    molting and egg laying

For the last few months I am only getting 9 to 12 eggs a day. (I have 18 girls) And now I have a few that are starting to molt. Do they slow down months before they go into molting stage. I did read that they don't lay eggs while molting but not sure about the before. If that is the case...

    egg whites

The last couple weeks we have noticed that some of the egg whites spread way out when cracked in pan. Yet when the eggs are fresh the egg whites are supposed to be contained around the yolk. Any idea what my girls are missing in their diet. They get good pellets, yogurt, treats all the time...

    molting

A few of my girls have started molting. Is there anything I need to be doing for them or just let them take care of it themselves.

    Molting or not?

I have a couple black Plymouths that are losing feathers. But everything I read said when molting it starts at the neck on down. But they are losing their tail feathers and then more around the back area and not so much the neck area. My Road Island and Comets are not losing feathers. They...

    have to throw eggs away

I have to throw my eggs away for the next 3 weeks because my girls are on antibiotics for respitatory infection. What I was wondering is can I scramble them and give them to the girls? I don't even know if they would like them but just a thought.

    question

So I am having to get rid of my eggs for the next month because my girls are on antibiotics. Question is can I just scramble them and give them to the girls or is that a bad idea?
