Do I Pick Up Shipped Birds? Or Will UPS Bring Them to My House?

So I recently purchased twenty two chicks from Meyers Hatchery. I've heard of people calling their post office the day before the birds are supposed to arrive and then going to pick them up from there. But I don't have a PO box, and I honestly don't know how the picking up of shipped birds...

Is Sumatra a Considered a Bantam?

I just purchased a sumatra roo as a chick from Meyers hatchery. I've never had this breed and this probably seems like a stupid question. But I'd like to know if he was in the bantie category, especially since I plan to show a majority of my chickens. Thank you in advance for any responses <3

Anyone Have any Meyers Hatchery Pictures?

I bought twenty two chicks from Meyers and they are supposed to be here by April 15th. I got a white Cochin, partridge Cochin, a black Sumatra roo, a buff Brahma banty, and exchequer leghorn. Also I bought the Feather-Legged bantam, Rare, and Brown egg layer assortments. Finally I partook in...

    Is This Egg Fertile?

So I candled this egg on day two yesterday and I noticed a small dark spot and when Id gently wiggle the egg the dark spot would move. Today I candled the egg again and the dark spot is even bigger. But I'm second guessing myself and I'm thinking the spot is actually just the yolk. Any opinions?

    Any Good Candling References?

Okay this is my first time hatching chicks and I have two duck eggs and nine chicken eggs in my incubator. I candle them once a day but I honestly don't know what I should be looking for. I don't know if the eggs are fertile either and I don't want rotten eggs sitting in my incubator. They've...

Red Spot In Day Old Egg?

So I did a "fertility test" on two eggs the other day. I put one duck egg and one chicken egg inside my new incubator just to test the waters. I was planning on waiting till Friday for growth but last night my incubator got up to 105 degrees and I was afraid I had cooked the poor guys. So I...

    Where to Buy Fertile Eggs?

I was just wondering if anyone had any site recommendations for buying eggs? I don't know if my eggs are fertile yet and I wanted a back up plan in case they aren't. Heres the thing though. I really love surprises and stuff like that. I also love rare chicken breeds. So is there anywhere that I...

I Don't Know If My Eggs Are Fertile??

I've been collecting eggs for the past week for hatching purposes. I have one rooster but I've never seen him try to do anything with my hens. I'm willing to wait the ten days to see if their fertile in the incubator. But I'd rather save myself some time. I'm planning to start incubating Friday...

Are My Eggs Infertile by the Time I Collect Them?

I usually get up to three eggs a day including one duck egg. But sometimes my hens lay very late at night and when I collect eggs they're cold. Does this mean they're dead? I check my boxes three times a day and I usually get them after their warm.

    Are My Eggs Infertile?

Okay so I'm taking a rookie run on trying to hatch eggs. I bought an incubator that should be here at some point today but I wont be putting my eggs in until Friday. I usually get three eggs a day from my small flock and I have one ten month old rooster. Honestly I've never seen my rooster try...

What Breed and Gender Are my Ducks?

I bought two ducklings awhile back. One was grey and crested and the other was all black. I honestly don't have a clue on how to tell the gender of ducks. I really dont even know if this is the right section. I bought them thinking they were a Cayuga, and a Pekin. Surprise surprise. They turned...

I'm wanting to incubate my first spring batch of chicks this Friday and my Swedish Ducks just started laying. I don't even know if the eggs are fertile but I was wanting to experiment with them. Saving My Eggs Until Friday to put in Incubator?

I just recently bought an incubator but it wont arrive until tomorrow. And even then I'm trying to get a substantial amount of eggs from each of my hens before starting the process. What Gender is My Wyandotte?

Over the summer I took the risk of buying chicks from a farmer on craigslist. In this batch I got one Silver Laced Wyandotte and a Blue Cochin. Among others. As the chicks grew I did notice that my Cochin grew faster than the other chicks but I assumed this was because of the breed. My Wyandotte...
