    Farm Fair 2012

We had another great year at Farm Fair this year. It was bittersweet as my oldest son left for bootcamp at Parris Island the day after it ended. Our Ducks and Geese Kiss our Royal Purple Guinea took Reserve Best of Show! Bouncy our D'uccle mixed roo did quite well :) Clay our...

    New baby from guinea/chicken nest.

Found this little baby yesterday morning by a nest that was shared by a chicken and a guinea hen. We had just removed the guinea hen from the nest as she sat for way to long without hatching anything. The chicken had started sharing the nest about halfway through. When I went out in the morning...

New goslings - updated 5/7/2012 with new pics

We have a pair of Embden geese and we had a pair of Saddleback Sebastopol geese. Unfortunately we lost our male Sebbie in October. Our male Embden has been mating with her as well as the Embden. The Sebbie girl just hatched out six of seven eggs. Some were hers and some were the Embden's. Now...

    Pot-bellied pig and ticks

Our Pot bellied Pig Patrick has been getting out of the yard and going into the woods (we are taking care of that). He had 10 ticks on him today. I've read PBP can get Lymes disease. Is there something that we can give him to prevent the ticks from getting on him?

    What's in your chicken feed?

My boys are doing a 4-H presentation on the feeding of the flock. We have already taken tags from several different feed bags ( Not too much info there) Basically I think they need information on what is in feed so for example why 16% protein and what is the protein. Any input from chicks to...

    Dogs in pools?

We own a house that we rent out to a family that owns a dog. Our house has a pool. We have a property manager that takes care of the rent and hold the contract etc., but my dad who lives nearby (they do not know he is related to us) takes care of cutting the grass and pool maintainance. He just...

    Poor business practice!

Went to visit my parents with my sister as a surprise last week in Florida. My sister thought it would be neat to go to Margaritaville in Universal's City Walk. According to the website there is a $15 parking fee, but after 6pm it was $3. So we made a reservation for 10/30 at 6:30pm. Upon...

What have my guineas been doing....?

well that is my 9 guineas, 20 ducks, 4 geese and about 40 chickens? DH took our 2 dogs to the vet for routine checkups only to find out that my Giant Schnauzer/Airdale has Anaplasmosis. Anaplasmosis, and emerging disease, is surpassing Lyme disease in some areas of the country. Cause: Deer tick...

Think they realize how close they are to dinner?

Or to being dinner? No we would not do that to our pet ducks. Just shows how lazy my DS is by not putting away tools after he is done using them.

There's a gander in my tub! *now empty* :(

Well it turns out our Sebbie boy must have cut his leg. When my DH noticed it was healed over well so we didn't do anything. Then 2 days ago when DH helped the boys put the birds away for the night he found him hiding behind our A/C unit. He had a large lump on his face next to his bill causing...

    Engagement party... thoughts?

Well I didn't have an engagement party nor have I ever been to one. Just recently I and my family received an invitation to my cousins engagement party. I knew it was coming as she posted on Facebook that "the invitations were done and should be sent out soon". Yes the engagement was "announced"...

    Suggestions for game cam...

for catching vandals. 2nd time our mailbox was taken out. I meant to get a game cam the 1st time, but didn't. Now serious about it. Worried that if the darn kids that did it come again and a flash goes off, they will vandalize the cam too. We are pretty sure who did it, cops are too, but they...

    I'm obsessed!

I helped my son enter his picture of his pet piggie in a cutest pet contest. I've posted everywhere I can think of including here, e-mailed everyone I know, sat in parking lots to get free wi-fis, etc. I take my laptop with me everywhere I go. (Don't have a smart phone). I look at the website...

OMG I hate 4-H project books!

Just finished up with the 7 project books that the kids had to do for 4-H. They are a great resource when keeping track of everything you own, sell, spend, etc. but that is also why I hate them. I just found out how much we actually spend a year on all of our "pets" and how very little we take...

Worth of a 1 year PBP?

For a 4-H project book my son has to document what his 1 year old barrow PBP would be worth. I have no clue. Any input would be great. I tried looking at classifieds to get an idea what they would sell for, but no luck so far. Mostly piglets or farm pigs is what I'm coming up with. Thanks in...

I know many people probably don't name their guineas, but we have name for all of ours. I'm interested in knowing if you have named them what they are. Our 1st group of guineas were named African names meaning beautiful/pretty. Mwenda - male Remba - female Halili - (beloved one) Zera - female...
