Gray Silkies from Ideal Hatchery? Real Color? Quality?

I'm looking for Splash silkies but saw these "grey" silkies...I know nothing about this color. Any help would be appreciated. I ordered 7 silkies from them this past Oct and ended up with at least 5 roosters so needless to say..not happy about that. One Hen or sure. Thanks

    Questions about silkie chicks

Hello, I have 7 silkie chicks that I have questions about. They are getting wing feathers but that's all so far. They will be 2 weeks on Monday. I also have 9 EE chicks and compared to the silkie's they are growing at a much larger pace. They are getting back feathers, tail feathers and...

Silkie chicks seem to be getting crusty rears. Necessary to wash?

I have EE's and silkies. I've noticed that more of them are getting crusty butts. I have no experience with pasty butts but I don't think that this is what they have because their vents are not blocked, but the area around the vent is starting to get crustyish around the feathers. Should I...

    Coop for Silkie's...Have questions

Ok, Here's what I'm doing. Building a 6x4 coop with a slanted roof 4 ft tall at lowest point. Questions are... since it'll be for silkies (maybe a few other bantams down the line) what should I do for nesting boxes? I'd like to keep the building simple so I was thinking boxes inside the coop...

Well, I did it! Chicks are ordered...way more then I can keep, lol.

After much going back and forth I finally put in an order this morning with Meyers. 25 easter egger pullets, 3 white silkies, and 3 blue silkies. I had to sell of my flock per hubby in order to get new chicks that would lay me pretty colorful eggs. Then I decided I just have to have some...

Easter Eggers that lay mostly blue...Ideal or Cackle hatchery??

Trying to decide which hatchery to buy from, right now they both have them in stock. I really want these chicks to get a colorful egg basket. Does one hatchery seem to produce chicks that lay blue/green eggs more then the other? Thanks

Thinking of having a rooster, can you give pros and cons?

I have only had hens and have one that is a feather plucker. I was wondering if I did have a roo, would there still have been this problem? What are the pros and cons to having one? I live in the country on 4 acres, so noise I don't think should be an issue, although we do hear someone elses...

    Hollow closet doors, usable?

I am looking to make a small transition type coop for chicks that I can put a heat lamp in so they can be outside instead of in the house. Possibly used later for banty's. We have some hollow closet doors and I was wondering if they may be usable for this type of coop. Thanks for your advice.
