So I got some chicks in a homemade incubator and I have three.. one looks like a bjg the other a barred rock and a EE with feathered legs.
Heres my problem this is a mix the roo is a GCM and has feathered legs. I have speckled sussex, slw, barred, australorp, BJG, RIR,EE. the two brown eggs that...
the hen is rough looking! broke feathers missing ones but otherwise seems healthy enough the hens are not the problem its the rooster. he will chase her peck her and at times I could swear he attacks her like flogging. I have seen her submit and he mount do his thing then jump off and peck her...
Ive had a hen that got "cozy" with me she hung close to house eating and seemed waiting on hand outs .. and I did give some healthy treats.
She is very comfortable being close to me when ever im out and about. i can pet her with not much dispute and she has no problem taking off if feels she...
Im trying out the experiment of hatching eggs.
The subjects are eggs from my own flock.
The lack of funds is the reason for home made bater. I had all the parts I need except a fan, 30wt bulb and a humidity thermometer.
Problem: I can keep temp at 100-108 fairly steady with a 60wt bulb...
OKAY great my tests are back yet part is still pending and looks like they are guessing.. not discounting the finds the hen was the biggest BLK Jersey Giant in my flock how ever my barred rock who wasn't so big also died of same green poop. only two have lived on. it doesn't narrow the cause...
im adding to my flock 39 chicks.. well little less when I get some family to take some bantams after they arrive. I have plans to clean out my coop and sanitize it again the month before they arrive. I want to house them in one side of my coop and allow them access to a sectioned off area of the...
I was cleaning sanitizing and repairs coop the other day and found two things.. one I believe they are darkling beetle eggs.. fresh and the only ones found were under a part of the roost that fits and nailed to the floor of coop
Then I found dark spots on the wall of coop mostly above nest boxes...
This guy shows up in my yard and leaves at dusk... walking down our long drive. What breed is he and should I be watching to be sure he doesn't try and take some of my girls. I have a roo that ignores him unless he tries to breed then he takes off after him with gesto my roo makes three of this...
Ok first good news its NOT Worms.. however I cant discount flukes because those nasty things are tricky!
I have to wait on other tests hope its not too much longer.

The barred that is sick seems to have picked up some more symptoms. She drinks excessively eats less seems more unstable and has stopped eating as much lifting her she has lost weight she puffs up again with tail pointing down and poops are sinking BAD! They have been better formed when poops...
I had a good run of luck after winter set in. I had 30 chickens down to 19.. unless this goes bad then 18!
My bard rock had emerged one day with a poop sickle looked creamy colored.. to me thats strange and she seemed to have pasty butt. I went back out to grab her up after fixing breakfast but...
Second time finding a leather egg. Could it be something besides lack in calcium. They have layer pellets though they have not been eating them very well. I leave out grit and Clam shell for calcium and once I have a bunch of crushed egg shells I feed them those. I see it eat up all the time...
I had been getting up to nine eggs from my 25 hens, some just starting to lay. The lowest 5 eggs in a day. Now in three days just a few.
It started about the time we had the first freeze. Or possibly the day I found two shelless eggs under the roost they were not busted however later I found...
