Got my new 8x10 shed all set up last night and got my chickens moved over reluctantly but I think they finally adapted.
I still have to build a roost and was thinking of an interesting way to collect the chicken poop? I've seen images of putting a tarp under the chicken roost?
Also what can I...
So they say anywhere between 2-3sq. feet of coop per chicken??? well I bought a 8x10 shed/coop and by that math is 80sq. feet
2sqft/per chicken = 40 chickens
3sqft/per chicken = 26 chickens
26-40 chickens???!! This is similar to the cable man saying he will be at your house anywhere between 2pm...
So I built a nice 4 Tiered chicken roost out of 2x4s.... my "chicken coop" is an old gutted out camper.... my chickens have decided to start roosting in the cupboards instead.... like 10 of them packed into a small 2'x2' square cupboard... should I just let them be?? they look cramped lol
What are the legal laws if I were to sell eggs online for consumption not hatching purposes???
Also about how much in shipping would I have to pay to ship say 1 dozen eggs? would I have to ship with an ice pack???
Just an idea popped into my head and looking at different angles
So are there different Americana breeds like golden laced or rocks??
Ordered the rainbow package from a Hatchery and got 3 different looking Americanas .. are they all just a random color or are there specific sub breeds??
Probably been asked a million times.. I got Cornish X about 3-3.5 weeks old. We live in North Dakota, going thru a cold spell... lows last couple days have been in the upper 20's but going to get warmer with lows in upper 30's ... I would like to kick them out permanently and the chicken coop is...
Got these I think Cornish x / fryer something or another from TSC today I forgot to take a pic of the sign...
Based on there starting to get some pin feathers id say there a week or two old already, but being as there a fryer breed maybe not??
So I have some hens that I can see the skin on there back.... at first I thought i had to many roosters and they were over mating or being to ruff....but someone said it could be lice ??
Looking at incubators on amazon the ones within my budget $150 have some real negative reviews some have quit ... others have over heated ... then under heated...
What everyone's opinion on a Styrofoam cooler, light bulb, and a dish of water?
Anyone have good luck with there homemade one...
Thinking of buying an incubator and creating some "Hybrid" chickens.
Right now my hens are as follows

My father in law has a farm in the country he told me he has a bunch of spare seed I could have ... he has buckets of lentils ... peas.... wheat... safflower ...
Can I make a mix and feed these as scratch grains as a treat?
I have 23 hens (almost 1 year old) and for over a month now I'm only collecting 6-10 eggs a day. I was getting 15-18 a day but since the warmer weather kicked in I saw a HUGE drop in egg production.
I checked all over and there not laying anywhere else....
So my hen went broody, ... dumb me forgot to mark the date when i first noticed it...
Tried candling the eggs for the first time ever, can someone tell me how far along she is??
I guessed 12-14 days... total random guess
Heres a video
Soo.... have a very broody hen right now.. which is fine... wouldn't mind having baby chick's again.... what will happen when they hatch? Will the momma hen protect them from the rest of the chickens?
Should I switch everybody to Chick feed in the coop?
Or should I build a separate wall to...
Hey everyone! I currently have 24 chicken hens, I sell the eggs occasionally and it pretty much pays for there food, I was just joking around with the wife about getting ostriches and did some research and it sounds like they are pretty profitable birds! the average ostrich produces 70lbs of...
Uh ya so went into the coop and I have a VERY broody hen.... if I put a random egg in front if her she instantly scoops it under her.
First question

So i set up 6 - 5 gallon buckets for them to lay in and they were using them perfectly for 4 weeks or so! now all the sudden they decided that my nesting boxes wern't good enough for them! they have been laying eggs where ever they so please!
Its getting to the point when i find an egg i...
