These are my mille mix chicks I hatched out several weeks ago. They are getting ready to move out of the brooder this coming weekend.
I love the pullets coloring it is so light
These chicks are bantam assortments I bought at tsc in april. Any idea what breed they are? They came from a hatchery in mount healthy ohio.
this black hen is gorgeous. She has a black comb, feathers, eyes, beak and legs. Her feathers shine purple in the sunlight.
the chick in the center is...
Is anyone else hatching today? hopefully I will have 3 chicks shortly. It is so hard not to go out and peek! Hopefully my other broody hatches one, she has been setting sooo long. Her first eggs werent any good so I had to replace them. I hope it is soon for her.
I have a broody hen setting on some eggs. She only gets up once a day for a short time but while up today another hen tore into the eggs. I found one dead chick looked to be day 19 or 20, with the shell removed and the membrane intact. I found another egg with most of the shell removed but...
I have a broody hen setting and the eggs are going to hatch within days now and I found mites in the nest. I have mite powder, but will that hurt the eggs or new chicks when they start hatching?
I am thinking about getting some bantam chicks from tsc next week. I am wondering if there is any way to tell by looking at them what gender they are. I dont need any more roosters. is it true that the darker colored chicks are female?
I have two bantam roos. one is a mille fleur and one is a white leghorn. I have three little white leghorn banty hens and one black frizzle banty hens. Anyway, I put some of their eggs under my broody hen. If they hatch, what will I get? (other than just white leghorn bantams).
By the way...
I just gave four of my hens ivercide injectible for worms. I gave about four drops down their mouth. I am scarred to death of this stuff! My dad says you can die if you get it on your skin, is it really that bad? If so wouldnt it hurt my poor birds throat?
I just got a confirmation of gape worm from the most wonderful chicken vet. I need to know if anyone here has had experience with this and if so what do I do. I have wazine but not sure it will help. DE is what the vet recomended and also panera granuals for horses but didn't know the dose...
Several of the hens in my big coup look like they are dying all of the sudden. They are standing or sitting with their feathers all ruffeled up and their eyes closed. Their face and comb and wattles look pale/dried up. They stopped laying eggs and only move if you nudge them. I didnt change...
It is 50 to 60 degrees outside durring the day and 28-32 degrees at nite right now. I have heat lamps for the coup and plastic over the door and windows (with a small gap at the bottom for ventilation). I will also be filling the coup with straw.
I am also worried about when to put out my...
I have 5 and 6 weeks old chicks in a brooder in the garage. They have just started to peck at each other today, so I am thinking they are overcrowded. There are 27 of them. I never worried about moving chicks outside before, but I have never raised babies this time of year. It is cold (30's...
My hens are having strange looking poo. They have red stringy stuff in their poo that looks like tiny earthworms. They are acting fine other than being slightly thinner than I would like so I am wondering if it is worms. I noticed tonite that one chick in my brooder is having the same poo but...
This is my 4-1/2 week old bantam mille fleur. I have never had bantams or mille fleurs before and cannot tell if this is a roo or hen. I hope its not a roo because I have two others. Can anyone else tell from these pics, or is it too early?
sorry the images are blurry, this little one...
I have a 4 week old chick that was sold to me as a standard red cochin. We bought 7 of them and six look alike. They are huge and have buff or red feathers and feathered green or yellow legs. the seventh chick is completely different. He/she is still fuzzy like a new chick everywhere but the...

I went out to the coup today to check on my broody hen and I think one of the eggs is hatching. I checked each egg and one - nothing, two - movement, three - a small hole at the end of the egg. How long does it usually take to hatch out after they make a hole? Did I hurt anything by moving...
I have a broody hen who is setting on eggs we got on vacation memorial day weekend. I dont know what day she started setting and thought the eggs were rotten. The other day one egg broke and to our suprise there was a fully developed chick with the yolk attached by a tube to its stomach. It...
