hi guys.
ive sadly lost one of my birds. checked on them the other night, 13 of them were all lively but one seemed to be sleeping standing up. touched her & she opened her eyes, drank some water then stood still. it was as if she couldnt keep her eyes open for being tired. in the space of...
finally, a bit of sun.
ive now had the weather to extend the the run from approx 5mtrs by 5mtrs, to 15mtrs by 15mtrs.
first time in ages ive seen the birds enjoy a new spot for a dust bath in the sun.
maybe now, the pellet consumption will slow down!!!!

ive seen wome ideas on here but they look complicated.
ive googled it & sen some easy ways but they are all different. some are just cardboard boxes with a light, some are polysterene boxes with some adaptions.

i checked on my birds this morning and seen that one of them had caught her toe inbetween the 2 pieces of tung & groove that make up the roost. she wasnt swinging by her leg as the nest boxes arenext to it so its a drop of about half a foot (they are in an 'L' shape). i managed to release her...

ive fed my hens the flesh & seeds from a few pumpkins. ive been told on here that the seeds are a ntural worming substitue.
2 days after feeding them, ive noticed red "pieces of flesh" (like small giblets out of a fresh chicken) with what looks like dried pasta about 2inches long & bunched...
i went to collect the eggs this evening, hens roosting like they normally do. heard a scratching & ruffling noise. thought nothing of it, just maybe the hens shuffling about. low & behold 2 rats came running out of the coop. now i know why the food has been disappearing pretty quickly.

Hi, i feed my hens on all the salad & veg peelings when ever i get some. they especially seem to enjoy potato peelings.
will these harm them?
also, i have a bag of potatoes that i was going to throw out until i remebered the hens. if they can eat them, is it easier to cut them in half, quarters?
Hi guys,
Does anyone change the feeding habits during the cold winter months? someone told me they wont be eating much laying pellets as they go off the lay (plus they are moulting). The do have access to vegitation (weeds, grass, tree trunks for bugs etc...) but also a plentifull supply of pellets
Hi all,

I thought someone was stealing them but i put a lock on the door & no extra eggs.
they did do this about a month ago & i put it down to a fox scaring them and they started back up to 6...
for a change, i bought a sack full of mixed corn & mixed it in with the layer pellets.

Ive read somewhere that sand is good to lay in a wired run.
We have really wet winters over here in great britain and the run gets very muddy. would it help if i covered the ground with sand or partly cover an area of sand?
Hi,
ive bought 10 of these "bits" as ive introduced 3 new hens to my established flock. 2 of the hens took straight away (they still get the odd peck every now & again but they are able to feed & get water). the 3rd was singled out. she is living in my back garden at the moment.
i tried to...
Has anyone ever used these?

ive bought a few and would like to try them today as the newbie is living in...
