So, I felt this - bulging belly and it's very soft, very warm, kinda reddish-pink. I can't feel anything hard or egg-like in there, so don't think she's egg bound. She seems to be eating fine, took several minutes to catch her, ... just kinda worried about what might be going on. She is a RIR...
Went to close them up and found her unable to get up. Legs splayed out behind her. She is panting. Unable to stand and if you squeeze her drumsticks, she does not try to pull away. Wings and head moving fine, but leg muscles won't move, but you can feel them twitch.
Silver laced Wyandotte...
Hen still sick (had a previous post)
She's about 2 yo
Lethargic & Tired - she was very unsteady on her feet, but seems to be a bit better
Limp & Pale comb
some poop stuck to tail feathers - greenish color, but none of the waste in the shower (where I am now keeping her) is green - all white and...
Hen is a rhode island red, about 2 yo...
Symptoms
Lethargic
Comb is pale and sorta limp (laying in an S shape rather than straight up)
Greenish watery poop, watery enough to stick on feathers
Not going out for free range time, but did go to the lower level of the coop (open to the ground but...
I rescued her right away and have dried her off as best I could and have her wrapped in a towel (oh yeah, she's happy about that! NOT!!) and in the house.
What else can/should I do for her? It's a couple of hours till dark, I'm not sure if she can go in the coop or what...
Thanks!!
Here's my flock: 3 RIR; 1 EE (that's the abbreviation for Easter Egger, right?), 1 Cockoo Maran, 1 showgirl -- all hens. They have a nice 2 level "condo" - upper level is all enclosed hen house, lower level is wire and open to the ground. They free range around the yard almost every day - for 6+...
I'm a underground backyard chickener. HELP! One of these must be a Rooster, who just started crowing (Oh and should I mention I've had MORE than my fair share of ROOs???? When I can't even have chickens??!?!!!) ARGH.
Anyway, here's photos. I have no idea who it might be... Please helppppppp...
We have a two level Chicken Condo. The upper level is the coop and is 4' x 8' with 4 nest boxes (made them before we realized that they'd all prefer the SAME box! LOL) anyway, the lower "floor" is the ground - and that is enclosed 4' x 10'. They get to freerange around my fenced back yard (about...
I was told this was a pullet, but now I'm not so sure, since I think I might have heard crowing in my (supposedly lol!) Pullet-Only flock...
What do you guys think??
edit: Oh, and breed? Is s/he an Ameraucana?
I have two showgirl hens - They had just started laying and I was getting 2 eggs per day most days, for maybe 5 weeks before the cold weather (see note below) & rain hit. Now they haven't laid even one egg in ... at least 3-4 weeks. Although they *can* freerange during most days, they don't...
Hi
My 7 ladies are in a two story condo - the top is their closed in coop - it's two feet off the ground, the bottom level is fenced in and just sitting on the dirt. They free-range around the yard 4 or 5 days out of the week, usually for several hours at a time.
They eat Layer Crumbles, and...
This egg looks like someone spattered blue paint on the lower half.
I have three RIR - been laying for months now, and they've always been mostly plain brown, sometimes with purplish specks.
I'm thinking (read hoping) that my Ameraucana might have laid this?
The thing is - she would be new at...
It's got a "dimple" in it, about the size of a dime. It looks like the membrane is intact. My crazy chicken scratched ALL of the pine bedding out of the nesting box.
Edited to actually ask the question! LOL! Is it ok to eat this egg??
Here's a link to the design we stole ... uh ... borrowed!! Right here on BYC!! So ... I'm not sure how to tell whose design it is... but to you, we say a hearty THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! Your pics are great and we were able to build nicely from your design info...
The one in the middle(ish) -- she's very tiny and looks so much more like a bird than a chicken... any ideas?
(The other two were roos and had to go to a new home, but I got three hens in exchange for two roos, so I'm happy!)
First let me tell you - I'm a total NOOB at this. I've never had chickens before. I'm trying to wait patiently for the eggs I know are comin'!!! I have three Rhode Island Reds about 4-5 months old; 2 white silkies, prolly 2 months old; one Aracuna (I hope I'm spelling that right) and one that I...
