Have had chickens for over 10 years now, raising chicks each year (because I have an addiction...) and this is the first time I've been hit hard by coccidiosis. Moved my 2nd batch of 9 chicks outside into my grow-out coop/kennel (adjacent to the big chicken run and coop so they can get adjusted...
Some beautiful young cockerels need a coop to call their own--NOT hatchery stock!
I have a few young boys to sell, they have outgrown their nursery and are ready to leave the nest, in a manner of speaking.
Willing to deal if there's interest in more than one, just not able to ship at this point...
C'mon down/up/over and check it out! There is also a Horse Tack Swap at the same time--should be a decent crowd and weather looks great. I know, it's Ohio...that can change, but I'm an optimist! Contact Scott Shipman at Champion if you want to reserve a space--phone number is on the flyer...
Looks like it's going to be a good day for this! Also, there is a Horse Tack Swap at the same time.....
Contact Scott Shipman at Champion Feed to reserve a space to set-up--phone below.
Hope to see you Buckeyes there!
I'm sure I'm not the first to experience this, but this is a first for me...Would appreciate any advice or sharing of similar stories from fellow chicken addicts.
Rhoda is one of the original 12 hens we started with almost seven years ago, when my dd and I took the leap into fowl territory...a...
Counting on some out side perspective since the 'hatchery' I purchased my chicks from will not respond after repeated inquiries.
I ordered the following:
Ameraucanas (which turned out to be EE's...should have know better)
Bluebells (hybrid RIR and Maran I believe)
Marans combo-supposed to be...
Don't believe the odds of more pullets are any better when you pay more for "feather-sexing." I knew it wasn't 100%...just hoped it would be a little better than what I've ended up with......
So far, seven young guys are wanting to spread their wings and have some ladies to call their...
OK...same old story...need some input. I have five 10 weeks old EE's that I "think" I know he vs.she...but before I re-home the boys I want to be 100% sure...just in case!
1) Ginger...pullet?
2) Love this coloring...fearful it's a 'he..' Triple row of comb, not terribly red...
I have read so many wonderful reviews about this brooder light so took the plunge and bought it prior to my chicks arrival this week...have raised quite a few batches in the last five years using the heatlamp so was pretty eager to receive this and no longer have the concern of fire, etc...
Baited a live trap last night (the night of the massacre) with the Layena pellets the marauder seemed to enjoy. The culprit returned to the scene of the crime. Look was waiting for us this morning:
He was tried, found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of poutryslaughter, and sentenced to death...
My DD's favorite hen, Pip, went on egg-laying strike when she went through her first molt last September, over 8 months ago---came through the molt fine but has not laid another egg since, until now.
Pip will be 3 years old next month and has been very healthy until this winter when her former...
Thought others might appreciate a laugh...I did! Noticed potting soil on my porch late last week from empty planter by the front door. Being the wise one I am, I figured those darn cats were using it as a litter box since first the ground was frozen and now it's a swamp so they took the easy...
Just feeling pretty sad--Nugget, one of our two (almost 2 year old) Buckeye hens who free range in our backyard (due to getting tormented by the rest of the girls), didn't come into the shed last night at bedtime, only her sister, Patty was there. This has happened before and although we have...
Just want to vent....sorry I really am an animal lover since, ok, the last century....but I absloutely HATE starlings. Won't go into boring details, just saying they are so darn persistent, and they poop everywhere...and they destroy other birds eggs....and they poop everywhere...but now...
My formerly lovely Buckeye hen, 'Patty,' must have flipped a switch to go into full blown molt, right when the temps have dropped and the wind picked up here in Ohio...she's now roaming the yard in a half-naked state, showing off her drumsticks (literally) and I'm a bit concerned about her being...
Haven't seen this weird subject...yet....but has anyone heard of this scenario? We have three lovely BCM pullets, hatched April 2010...first pretty egg arrived 9/11 and all three were laying pretty regularly, until the last seven days. One of the three Marans now stays in one nestbox for most...
We are on week three with our first little batch of broilers, my dd's 4-H project....wonder if any of you experienced folks have some ideas for marking the chicks to ID them easily?...since three go to the fair I don't want to use a sharpie marker or paint in case it doesn't clean off. We've...
Wanted to see what concensus is for quarentine time before introducing new pullets to the rest of the flock? Been searching through posts (my eyes are starting to cross), and the only one I've found so far is a month. Does that seem the norm? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We're...
Bear with me, entering new territory with meat birds--just p/u a dozen yellow fluffballs ("Super Roasters" from the county extension office) for my daughter's first attempt at a 4-H broiler project...any input from you experienced folks would be greatly appreciated...
1) They are in a 4x4sf...
