My friend has a bunch of peacocks. They lay eggs all over the pen but never set. So this year he tossed them all in incubators and 9 hatched.
So, now what?? He can expand his pens, but he already has 6 adults and that seems like a lot of birds...
Any advice on selling peacocks?
Can they be...
Need some help please.....
This is my 4th year of goslings from my Sebastopol breeding pair. They have done a great job in the past, hatching out all but 1 egg, the usual dud. This year, something is off. I think.
Friday, 1 gosling hatched out, dried off, healthy peeping, yippee! Right on...
A friend has swans and asked me what to do, but I only know chickens. She has a pair of swans that hatched babies this year and doesn't want them to fly away.
Someone told her to "tag the wings"
Is this the same as clipping flight feathers in chickens? Or is there something else...
I just set up a coop with a few chickens for a friend as part of an educational project. I'd like to put up a 1 page "chicken fun fact" at the coop for them, and I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for what to include. We'd like it short and sweet, bullet points if possible.
There are 3 hens - I...
Very happy with my successful hatch! Now I know I have a good breeding pair, but I also don't need 9823709847 geese :-)
So rather than just toss the eggs, I'm thinking about selling them. They are Sebastopol, all white.
For those of you who sell your eggs:
Do you sell online? eBay, or other...
well.....I'm going to give vent sexing a shot. My Sebastopol goslings are now a month old, so I know I'm a bit late to the party, but there you go.
Anyone done this before? Advice for me? I've been watching a few videos, but would love some advice from someone whose done it before!
Sorry to be gross, but bar-b-q sauce is the only thing I can think of to describe what I found in the pen today. Not sure yet who it's coming from, but I will be doing some serious hen checks this week!
But, I do know that's not normal. They haven't had a change in food or anything out of the...
I can't keep the 5 babies my goose hatched (already have enough birds!), so I think I'd like to sell them. They are sebastopols, not your "run of the mill" goose!
SO, any ideas how much I should charge? I don't think I can get into the shipping (have to keep them warm, etc.) so I guess I have...
I can't get enough of the cuteness - have to share!!
Meeting Norman - I had to separate them since papa is very rough with the babies
Snack time
Snuggling up in mama's wing
Awwwww!!!
It started yesterday - 4 out of the eggs by late afternoon, 2 more this morning. SO EXCITING!!!! My mama goose is a 2 year old Sebastopol, this is her first batch and she couldn't be more pleased with herself.
There are still 2 eggs left - one with no activity at all, one well on its way out...
We lost power yesterday (yet another teenager slammed into a pole :-(
Power was out for 8 hours. It got down in the low 50's last night - incubator is in the garage.
Are my peacock eggs in the incubator lost?
I've got peacock eggs in the incubator - 6 set to hatch around June 7. 2 of them started hatching two days ago (day 25). One died in the egg, cracked the shell but didn't get through the membrane. The other is STILL hatching - its been 48 hours and I'm worried. I hear peeping, see breathing, the...
I've never seen anything like this - 2 of my astrolope hens are beating the crap out of each other! Both have been broody and setting on eggs, but when they get out of the nest for a snack they attack. It looks a lot like how roosters fight, feathers up, feet in the air, drawing blood and...
I had a lovely pair of Khaki Campbells. They hatched 11 babies for me last year and were working on a new clutch of eggs in late March. Sadly, my drake was eaten :-( SO sad......
I moved the female and her nest, and Fort Knox'ed the pen, but she gave up on setting, so I've had my broody...
OK...got the incubator up and running. I've only used it for chickens, and that was years ago. I've got 2 peahens and 1 peacock. They've started laying so I'd like to try incubating.
My incubator says 99 1/2 degrees for all eggs - ok for peas? need warmer?
Is it ok to keep the incubator in...
I have 6 nesting boxes - 3 on top and 3 on the bottom. I have some broody hens setting on ducks and peacock eggs, so I make sure they are all tucked in on the bottom 3 nests.
Well.....last night I checked on everyone and found one of the duck eggs in the upper right box with a peck hole in it...
Not sure where to post this, but here here goes...
I've been wondering for AGES - is the nutrition different for different breeds of chicken (duck, goose, etc.)? A friend once told me that EEs are the healthiest with highest protein and lowest cholesterol, but I've never found any information...
my 2 new babies are just a week old and loving life in the bathtub (with 5 blue sweedish ducklings). But....one of the goslings looks different than the other - the baby fuzz on its back doesn't fluff up. They love to play in the water when I rinse the tub so you can see the soaked fluff in this...
You'd think I know the answer to this one but.......
How old is old enough to put the new chicks in the big coop? Feathered out? 4 weeks? Depends on the weather?
What do you all do?
Poof! just vanished overnight. I had a male and female khaki campbell, but the male, Ralph, was gone this morning. I keep them in a pen at night - no holes, breaks in the fence, etc. The female and her nest of eggs are still with me, but no sign of Ralph anywhere. Not even a feather.
I'm so...
