I am worried now. I was away from my house over the weekend at a band festival, and I came home hoping for some little chicks, but sadly, there was none.
I hope they hatch tomorrow
I am thinking that I should go ahead and start thinking about a brooder and what to make it out of. I am probably going to use a cardboard box. Is this a good shelter for them? We have cats and I am going to keep them in my room, but I want them to be safe from predatorrs. Any Sugestions?
I was looking for nest boxes and I was wondering if the hens would like this kind of nest box.

Hey everyone. I candled today and out of 7 eggs, 4 show nothing but little dots and are pretty clear. But I don't know about the dots, because I don't know much about what embryos should look like, but I know that there should be something in there atleast. The eggs have like a little air bubble...
I recently bought pine shavings so that I could already have supplies for when my eggs hatch, and trust me, I am ready for them too hatch
Will the aromatic oils present problems to the chickens??
As some of you know, I am not home with the bator full of eggs. Our other grandad said that he would stay and check up on them tonight. Well he goes and calls us from our house. He tells me that the incubator was at 102*. I asked him if he could turn it down just a little and stick around awhile...
I am away from home for Thanksgiving, and I am at my grandparents house. We just got done eating. I made my dad an hour late because the incubator temps went haywire. I was adjusting them and making sure they were right for 1 hour!! I have a feeling that something is bound to go wrong. I am...
The eggs in the bator keep calling me, wanting me to make sure te temp is steady. Its getting aggravating since I can't sleep. Why did I choose Silkies??
I finally got a hygrometer and I noticed that the humidity was pretty high. I only set in the the bator for a few min and it was in the 60's already! So I took out the eggs and mopped up ALOT of water in the bottom. I am waiting for the new humidity level. Could the high humidity have been...
I am sounding stupid but I told my dad that the thermometers didn't add up and that I have been adding 3 degrees to what the therm. says to get the actual temp in the bator. Well he says otherwise. He thinks that the therm. can't be off because of the mercury.
I performed a test on them two...
the temps in the bator have ranged around97-98, and my thermometer colder than room temp by 3 degrees. So the actual temp should be around 100-101. Haven't been able to get hygrometer yet. There is just this feeling that something is wrong. I keep thinking that none of the eggs will hatch, and...
Me and my family are leaving for Thanksgiving and I was wondering if it is okay to leave the eggs unturned for 1-2 days. I hope we don't stay for more than a day, that way I can monitor the future chickies.
I just noticed that my thermometers in the bator were uneven, so i set them out of the bator to warm to room temperature. It seems that the one I have been relying on is like 7 degrees off!!! I have had them in the bator for 1 day, and I'm pretty sure they are done for. Any suggestions??
