I have a two year old production red that seemed fine yesterday, but today she is listless, walking slow with her tail down and her comb is pale. She is just laying around, but seems to eat treats when I give them to her. Crop does not seem impacted and nothing else seems to be visibly wrong...

Can a box turtle live with my girls?

Somebody gave me a box turtle. I have been letting it walk around in the yard while my girls free range and they get along fine so far. I live in Texas and it is perfect weather for a box turtle to live outside. Would it be ok for the turtle to live in the run with the girls?

My babies are shredding newspaper. Is it ok and what else can I use?

I have 3 chicks that are about 2 weeks old. I have newspaper on the bottom that I change twice a day. The problem is that they are scratching it and shredding it up. Will this cause a problem if they eat it? Is it safe to use something else like pine or aspen shavings at this age.

I have 2 hens and a silkie rooster that are 18 weeks old and 2 hens that are 14 weeks old. Can I feed layer feed to them, because I have no way to separate the ages? I live in Texas close to Houston. My question is: What is too cold for a chicken? I was thinking about closing up the coop vents during winter but I am worried about ventilation. Should I just close the windows on cold nights and then open them during the day? Do they need a heat lamp...

Is a 2"x6" board to wide for roost?

I know that a lot of people recommend using a 2x4 for roosts, but I already have a 2x6. Is there a problem with it being bigger? I have a barred rock, production red, ameracauna and 2 silkies Thanks.
