I was allowing my chickens to roam free during the day, and last week I found 2 nests where they had been laying.. I do have a rooster.. I collected the eggs, and would like to be able to eat them. How do I know if they are edible without cracking them open????
I have 9 hens that are almost a year old. I bought 15 new babies on March 4 of this year. Yesterday we put chicken wire up so they could be in the coup without getting killed by the older ones. When I went in the coup today, there was an older hen in with the younger ones and she was laying her...
I recently got rid of my rooster and my 9 hens seem fine, however I am only getting 3-4 eggs a day. My mother-in-law says its because I have no rooster so they won't lay now. I have been told you don't need a rooster for the hens to lay. Anyone know???
I do not wash my eggs. When its rainy outside the eggs get mud/poo chunks on them. If its not muddy then they are spotless. My question is, should I wash them or just do as I have been? Most of the time the eggs are spotless, but there have been a few with gunk on them. I gave a dozen eggs to my...
I have 10 hens and 8 have been laying for a while now. The last few days I have gotten a few really small eggs, are they from new layers or could it be my other one just laying a smaller egg??? :fl
I was thinking of incubating some eggs, and was wondering how long do I leave them on the counter before putting them in the incubator. Also, my incubator doesn't have a turner, so how often do I need to turn them and how far do I turn them? I would love to have this work, but am very worried. u
My EE finally laid her first egg! I heard the egg song from another hen and when I went to the coop my EE was in one of the nest boxes (first time ever). I waited out of the coup and when she came running out I was so excited. I went in and was VERY happy to see a cute little sea foam green egg...
I was wondering if you wonderful people out there would mind putting up pics of the different colors of EE eggs. I have 1 EE and don't think she is laying yet. My other girls lay brown eggs and they are light brown. I would like to see what color I could expect from my EE. Thank you!!
I have seen pictures on here of eggs that are really really dark brown, and was wondering which breed laid them. I would like to get more chickens and want to get different ones. I have ones that lay brown eggs. I would like to get some that lay a different color than my brown layers. Any...
Does anyone know if roosters of different breeds are meaner than others? My Black Sex Link roosters were all mean, so they are gone now. I do have a EE rooster that doesn't seem to be mean at all. Is it the breed???
I was wondering if it is ok to raise meat birds and my laying birds in the same area? I have 10 laying hens and would like to get some chickens to raise for meat.
I know that the waddles and combs colors are a factor in egg laying. My sex links have red ones, and they are laying. My EE isn't laying yet. Will the EE's comb and waddles get as red as the sex links or will it be lighter or darker? I know she is getting ready, but since she is a different...
I was just wondering what the approximate age an EE is when they begin to lay? I have one who is around 22 weeks and today is the first day where she squatted when I tried to touch her. My sex links have been laying for 2 weeks.
I have 10 hens and I had 2 roosters. However, this morning the dominant rooster attacked my oldest son. So, the rooster is now gone. My hens have been laying 2 to 3 eggs a day and today we only got 1. Did I mess up their egg laying by eliminating the big man???
Out of my 10 hens, I have been getting 2 eggs a day for a week. This past Sunday I got 3. One was HUGE, it is too big for the carton. And now today, I got 3 and one was even fatter than the one on Sunday. I'm pretty sure its the one hen that is laying huge eggs. Anyone know if this is how she...
