Edited - I forgot it was a 12300 not a 9300
Hey there. I have been on a 6 year chicken hiatus, but got a little giant 9300 with forced air and an automatic egg turner for Christmas. Got a line on healthy eggs, got the incubator set up and checked it, worked fine got to temp. Went and picked up...
I have only 3 chickens right now. One kept going broody and I happened to be at a farm so I picked up some (hopefully) fertilised eggs and put them under her. Remembered to mark them after she laid one, so there's one I think might explode (good times) let's hope not.
The chickens prefer to...
My chickens have CRD. I have made the decision to cull my small flock, which is heartbreaking. We have them for the eggs and for the kids to learn about livestock etc. so it doesn't make sense to hang on to them and watch them cycle through this disease. I also worry about my friends with...
My hen Fluffy is 6 months old. She is one of 4 I hatched myself. I had to give my 2 roosters away because we aren't allowed to have them in the city. So I had Fluffy and Nell as of late March. I just went and got 4 more hens. I asked the lady who sold them to me about disease and she said her...
We aren't allowed to have roosters in vancouver and one of my chickens is crowing - quietly for now.
I hatched these chicks beginning of december, and this is my first time with chickens. I was hoping I ould get some help figuring out the gender of my chickens?
thanks in advance!
Here is...
My coop is almost done. My chicks are almost a month old and I'd like to move them into the coop in the next few weeks. I need to finish up the doors and the hardware cloth but otherwise it's finished. I'm getting nervous now that it's so real. I have a couple of concerns I thought I'd throw out...
My new chicks were born late lat week/on the weekend. One of the four is having a leg problem. At first I thought it was spraddle leg which surprised me as they have paper towel over pine pellets. Now I think one leg is just sure but I can't see a wound or anything. One leg is perpendicular to...
I have one two day old chick and two one day old chicks and the one day old was alone at first. Now I they're all in the same brooder and the older chick is harassing the two you get ones. Will this calm down? It's only been about 15 minutes but I'm afraid to leave them alone together. They're...
Ok I had an egg pip at around 8am yesterday and it's been 24 hours. It's only got a small area cleared. I'm assuming it's time to consider assisting but I really don't want to unless it's absolutely necessary. Here's a pic of it. It's still breathing but don't want to doom it!
It's awfully...
So I have a hatched chick that's quite fluffy and active, one that's pipping (started at 9am and it's almost 3 now), and 16 eggs. What happens if they keep staggering their hatch, how can I move the one to the brooder after a day if another one has pipped ?!
Do you think this is acceptable until I set up the big dog crate? I have an early hatchet trying to get out of the shell now and don't have the main brooder out if storage yet, should be able to have it ready for day 21. I'm on day 19 now. I will check the temp. I am more concerned that there's...
We are only on day 18 and I have a pip and in the middle of the egg, not in the air cell. It's external so am I correct in assuming it's going to be as ok as u can guess given it has access to oxygen? Should I be breaking lockdown at this point even if one egg beds help and endanger the other 7...
I'm putting my eggs on lockdown today. I took them all out to take out the turner and fill up the second moat. I put down some towels to out the eggs on to help if any hatch so they're not walking on the wire. The towels have sopped up some if the water and are moist. Do I need to get them out...
I don't have a contact number for the lady who sold me my eggs as she was a friends neighbour. She gave me a mix of eggs if mixed breeds. She wrote on the eggs I'm assuming to identify possible mixes but I'm not sure. A couple also say "1st" and I don't know why. Can anyone decipher these for...
I'm finally able to try again after a dismal hatch last spring. This will bein a preschool I can access 7 days a week. I bought a hygrometer to better measure the humidity. What's the best thermometer situation? Something I can use with an automatic turner... We're using a hovabator. 24 eggs...
Let me know if the pic doesn't show up. I'm on my phone.
Background: eggs are in the classroom, in a hovaBator 1583. I can't get in after 3 or on the weekends. Lockdown was last Friday 3 pm after I took out the egg turner. Monday at 7am I came back and the temp was down to 94 :( Also not sure...
I'm on day 22 with no pips. I swear I hear some tapping, but no cheeping. I don't see any movement, at least nothing I can absolutely verify as me not going insane.
I heard the same tapping yesterday morning without any of the chicks breaking through.
I have no idea what my humidity has been...
I'm on day 21 with no pipping. In a hovaBator 1583. I filled trough 2 as per the instructions and done have a way to measure humidity. Two questions: should I try to top op the water using a straw and syringe through the vent hole? I am figuring the troughs may dry out before they hatch at...
