Sold as Welsummers but look different...

So I got both these girls from a lady who buys from Meyer Hatchery. Don't know if they are good or bad - just giving info. They had the same hatch day (3/6/2013). They look so different. Especially the size of comb but also the feathering. Are they the same breed?

Bald spots, teeny tiny yellow bugs and saddles...

I am having a terrible time getting my girls bald spots to fill back in. The bald s[pots started with a new young rooster and were perpetuated by the hens themselves. I have had saddles on them for almost three weeks and the feathers were growing back in great under there. Once in a while when...

    A question on wing clipping

I'm sorry in advance as I am sure this is a repeat question but... if I clip my hen's wings, will they still be able to get up to their roosts at night? They are flying up on the coop (seven feet high) and over the foot fence that encloses our property. They are 5 months old and sleep on a...

Second & third egg double yolkers!!

We got our very first egg on Thursday from one of our White Leghorns. The first two were small and we ate them up. I have been saving them since (got up to seven) then but decided to eat some today. It turns our the second and third eggs she laid were double yolkers!! I haven't cracked open...

Almost 12 weeks old but no color in combs...

Actually, they barely have any combs to speak off. The white leghorns have the most but only about a quarter of an inch at the tallest. I have 2 of each of the following: BO, BA, BR, RIR & White Leghorn. They all are still pink rather than getting red on their combs. They do have a bit of red on...

    Two questions (possibly silly)

I was just wondering first, when my girls might lose their peeps and gain their clucks. Second, is it normal for a few feathers to fall out as they are feathering? My girls are 7 weeks old.

So I have been spending so much time looking at everyone elses progress on their new coops that I didn't even think to put up pics of our own until just now! I completely forgot to take pics of the progress of our run but here are a few of the coop we are attaching to it. We started the second...

We were given notice of a scheduled power outage on Thursday and Friday of this week. They will happen sometime between 12:00 & 4:00 in the afternoon. Last time this happened it ended up lasting less than an hour. BUT - they could last the whole four hours. My week old chicks are in our garage...
