so my ducks are hatching out about 2 days late. the first one finally busted out but a big chunk of the shell is stuck on his stomach. is this something i need to worry about? also how long is it normal for the others to start following suit
just set some eggs 12/30/11 at 10:30 am. they are any mix of pekin/cayuga/runner.any tips for what to during the incubation period, i've studied alot but books dont always teach you everything. i have 8 eggs and would be more than happy with 50% hatch. i'm using a little giant with an automatic...
apparently people recently dumped a ton of domestic ducks at smithville village over by the dirt parking lot. tons of pekins, some large saxony looking ducks and khaki's. there has been domestic geese and some scovies there for a while but i doubt there will be enough food to feed all of them. a...
my ee hasnt laid in just over 2 months, prior to this she was my best layer with an egg everyday. i understand that there should be a drop off with less daylight but to stop all together doesnt seem right. my other 7 birds are still giving me an average of 5-6 eggs a day. anyone has any ideas...
i have a pekin who has been laying about 2 weeks and a male cayuga who looks like he's been mating a bit with the flock. i want to save up hatching eggs and was wondering if i should refrigerate them to keep them good until i incubate the bunch or just let them sit out. i've heard duck eggs can...
a bout 2 months back i purchased what was sold as a pekin duck from a farm supply store. as its matured the only similarities it has to my other pekin is its color. this one has a shorter fatter body, wobbles much more as it walks and the legs are more centered to its body. after looking it...
my goldenlaced wyandotte was bawking up a storm all day yesterday. this morning i found her dead in the coup when i went to check for eggs. she appeared to be very healthy as does the rest of my flock so i have no idea what happened. if anyone else has had this problem i would just like to know...
i have pekin, black runner and cayuga hens, along with cayuga and mallard drakes. if i let them breed to expand my flock how will the offspring lay? would production be less than the purebreds since mallards dont lay as often or would it increase due to hybrid vigor. if anyone has had experience...
i have a few juvenile ducks(about 3 months) that only quack if i pick them up. does this mean they are male or do drakes not quack at all? they are cayugas if it helps. if the quack method isnt fully reliable when can i expect sex feathers?
one of my hens just started laying, both eggs were a good size and had a strong shell, one was even a double yolker but we've only gotten 2 eggs in the last week. does it take time before they start laying almost daily or should i be concerned? could they be eating the eggs in the coop without...
i've heard of some people only giving scratch as food, would this be ok as long as i give my birds acess to may yard for a bit each day or is there not enough nutrients?
out of the 5 cayugas I got its sounding like only 1 is female. Is anyone in nj interested in tradingfemales for males and if so what breeds do you have?
i was sold a pair of "mallard" ducklings along with a pekin. i have read on a forum somewhere that if there is a second stripe under the eye that it is really a rouen and wont be able to fly but a mallard has a single stripe. is there any truth to this? i would prefer to have rouens anyway
its an EE, i'm not allowed to have roosters where i'm at so i'm hoping its a hen, although i'm starting to give up on the idea
please let me know what you think
