I installed water nipples on the bottoms of buckets but the nipples themselves drip. It's a very slow drip but with three nipples in each bucket they quickly make a mess in the coop. Anybody else have this problem?
I bought 2- LG incubators. 1 holds steady temp really well and the other doesn't. The temp in the bad one just will not stabilize. It runs anywhere from 97 to 104 and won't hold steady. Another thing I've learned is for the last week you really need to get the humidity up. Upping the humidity...
Today was a glorious day. My wife gave birth to a handsome baby boy on Friday and we came home from the hospital today. I instructed the older boys to retrieve the eggs from the coop as it had been a couple days. When they went out one of the girls was missing. They found her outside tucked into...
Just a warning to all new hatchers- nobody will tell you this so I want to warn you about home hatching. There will come a time when you will have to deal with lame chics. You will have to make a decision whether they can lead a normal life or not and must be put down. I've processed many...
So after my first batch completely failed because of a bad thermometer my second batch has been hatching. So far 30 out of 39 have hatched with a couple pips. So happy around here lately.
So I ordered 2 RIR roo's from a local hatchery here and went to pick them up today. When I got there they handed me a box and said "we gave you a couple extra." I thought OK I'll just raise them for some meat. When I got home to put them in the brooder I found 24 in the box. So my question is...

I am thinking about doing turkeys this year instead of cornish x. Any input is greatly appreciated. How much feed? Housing? Butchering? Stuff like that.
Last night I was checking out some posts in this section when I read that some people put their eggs in cartons to hatch rather than on their sides. I'm due to hatch my first batch in about 2 weeks and any opinions and instructions about this would be very helpful.
So I had 26 eggs in my bator. At 25 days I had a hatch of 0%. My bator came with 2 thermometers. I had one of them outside in the brooder and one in the bator. When I put the second one in the bator I realized there was a 7degree difference between the two. Which was right? Were either right...
These chickies are gorgeous. They are not show quality but dang do they lay eggs. I have 14 layers and since they started laying I have not got less than 12 eggs per day. That's held true even in this cold weather. They are also very sweet little ladies.
12- $25.00
24- $35.00
My current hatch...
I have fertile barred rock eggs for sale. I put my first batch in the incubator 2 weeks ago and so far 23 out of 25 have developed so fertility is pretty good. Email me and make an offer or post reply here. Shipping costs will be actual ( how much it costs me to ship it.)
I picked up an incubator and threw some eggs in it 10 days ago. We candled 2 today and holy cow there was the dark spot. Embryo's!! We are very excited.
My ladies lay really hard eggs. When I crack them I actually have to hit them several times to get them open. So I am thinking it might be the membrane. Does anyone know what I can do to thin the membrane out a little bit? Possibly a feed supplement?
