    Dawg??? Question please

Hello Dawg, guru of all things wormy :) Noticed a round worm in some poo yesterday afternoon so I wormed with Valbazen last night. Seeing more worms in poo today but the chickens are EATING THE WORMS OUT OF THE POOP. I am dry heaving a bit as I type that..... It may be a silly question, but I...

    I lost three Ameraucana chicks....

To this creep. These were chicks that I had placed under a super broody Brown Leghorn hen. What I'm wondering is whether or not I could go get three more to put under her or not. She accepted the first chicks with no problems after sitting for only a couple of days. I put them under her in...

    Has she accepted them???

I put two chicks under a first time broody leghorn last night. I haven't seen them since.....I am concerned that they haven't eaten or had anything to drink. She's keeping them under her and I don't know if this is normal or if I should pull them back out. Can anyone help me with this? ETA...

Moving a broody and slipping in chicks at the same time???

I've got a broody leghorn.....I've let her have some eggs and she's been on them for a few days. I would like to move her and slip chicks under her and remove the eggs all in the same night. Have any of you tried this with any success? Thanks!

    Sad morning

Went to feed the bottle baby lambs this morning and found a ewe in labor.... She'd been at it for a long time.... Needed help. When we pulled the baby it was already gone. I'm taking it hard. Need to toughen up, I guess :(

    Flock tested

I walked into our home office a little while ago and heard lead roo raising a fuss like he does when a hen will sound a distress call. I looked out the window and he was looking up and I could hear the crows calling. There was a crow sitting on a wire above where the rooster was so I just...

This is how I got to start my day...

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g68/remuda1/IMG_1503.mp4 The one in the close-up had a super difficult birth and acts like she's got vertigo. BUT..... she doesn't know anything else and seems to absolutely love life and eats like a horse and pesters her...

    Holy Cow!!!

Just watching the news about Sparbo (sp) Farms in Iowa. It's a factory chicken farm, that I guess McDonalds gets their eggs from. Undercover footage of dead birds in the cages (they looked like they'd been in there for weeks!), dead rodents and clouds of flies in the hen houses!! Good Lord...

    District attorney's office called

Me today. I had previously posted regarding an employee that we discovered was embezzling money from our business. Long story short, the guy is a real louse but my husband thought he was a "friend". We live in a fairly small town. The ADA called me today to let me know that he had interviewed...

You just never know what you might find :)

I know that a lot of you must open or look into your nest boxes and have them look like easter baskets, but I was tickled to find these two eggs a short while ago. The large one is 80 grams. I'm sure that's no record but it's a big egg . This hen lays every other day and they are all like...

I am so completely disgusted - Updated

Let me preface this by saying that my husband is a great man. His only fault is that many times, he is too good for his own good. We have our own business and when he gets ready to hire someone, he invariably looks for someone that he feels "needs the help". With only one exception in ten years...

    Roasted chicken/bacon blanket? YUMMO!!

What do y'all think? This was my first time to process a chicken and I skinned it since that seemed a good, easy way to get my feet wet. I would really like to roast it and I will brine it prior to, but I thought that maybe wrapping it in bacon may also help retain moisture and add tons of great...

    Just how aggressive

Are golden and silver laced wyandottes??? I started the integration process between my almost 6 month old Marans (Cuckoo and BCM - three hens of each and one BCM roo) and my almost 4 month old GLW and SLWs and Brown Leghorns (2 each of the GLW and SLW pullets and one GLW cockerel and the three...

Should I be concerned? ETA : Day five- JACKPOT!!! Pics added

I have been waiting for my BCM hens to begin laying. All three are this >< close. This morning, one of them was freaking out, doing the pacing thing and jumping to the roost and back down, to the roost and back down. So, I scooped her up and put her in a nest box. She immediately calmed...

Killed it, cleaned it.... Now what?

Hi all. I culled and cleaned a 23 or 24 week old Cuckoo Marans rooster this morning. I know that I've seen on here to let them "rest" in the fridge? Can you tell me how long he stays in there and also for this age rooster, should I expect the meat to be tough/tender/or what? Thanks in advance...

    Are you KIDDING me????

Please tell me what is the earliest you've had a hen go broody???? I have one that has been laying for, at the most, 2 weeks. I think she's trying to go broody!! There are three of them and yesterday there were no eggs. I have three nest boxes, and of course this morning, it looked like rush...
