I am looking for a good home for our female mallard. Her name is BB and her mate was killed by a coyote. Since then she has not left the yard and I have no money for a new mate for her. She likes our pond and virtually cares for herself but she needs a good home with other ducks and the...
Well, I have to say that raising a flock is one of the best yet demanding experiences I have had since my son was an infant. My son, who is almost six, is expected and made to help with taking care of our birds. Some say I am mean and some don't think it right that he is made to help but I...
Our girl is doing awesome!!!! Her wound is closed, she is walking on her foot. It is still a little weak but she jumped into her tub today. We have moved her and her mate back outside to a new pen. I hate to enclose them but it is for their safety. I thank God she healed......I would have cried...
Her mate is in with her and she is doing great. Her wound looks good and is starting to close....her foot is still weak but she can now stand on it
We are keeping our fingers crossed that she keeps progressing this well. At this rate and if the wound continues to heal like this, she should be...
It is only because I saw it happen that I am sure my female mallard was attacked by a hawk and he tore her right front shoulder up pretty bad. I think he injured her left foot when he dropped her too because she won't stand on it but gives no sign of major injury upon touch.
I have her in the...
I am in need of a second roo and seeing as mine is a young roo, I am hoping for one a little more mature (or seasoned, if you will). I am in Southeast Missouri. If anyone has one they are interested in selling, please send me a message on here and I will get back with you.
It has been exactly two weeks since my girls started laying. We have gotten three dozen out of them so far......half of one being collected just this morning. I was absolutely shocked that I counted twice to be sure there really were six.
Thank all of you for the advice and comments. I never thought about the color turning him (and now his girl, BB) away. They drink happily from it. I am looking into a stock tank, maybe a rubber one so if I decided to sink it into the ground I could. I am not sure yet. As for our interactions...
This is my sons Drake. His name is Socko and he is about three months old. He now has a girl but she is still pretty skiddish, so I am giving her time before I try and get some pics of her. Socko is doing great and they are both so fun to watch. For some odd reason, he doesn't get into the water...
Name: Dommie
Breed: Barred Rock
Gender: Hen
Age: 6 mos
Dommie is our very curious sweet heart. She loves my son to pieces, she follows him to the bus stop if I let her.
We built our house out of an old slide in truck bed camper. We recently busted open the bottom of the upper bunk ( the part that would be over the cab of a truck) and added on to the house as we 'acquired' some more kids. It is no where near beautiful as it is put together with many leftover...
No there isn't a pic at the moment because my camera batteries are dead but I will post one as soon as it is done charging. I am excited still and I am not sure which hen laid the egg but all of my babies are from 18-22 weeks old. I have brown leghorns, red and black astralorp ?spelling?, barred...
I went to let my girls and boys out this morning and, as has become habit, I checked the nests and almost missed it but it was there snuggled down in the nest next to the 'example egg'.
I let out a little yip and all my birds (duck included) stared at me like something was wrong!!! I am so...
I began keeping chickens because I can no longer work due to heart issues and wanted a way to help the family and keep busy since my son was preparing to enter kindergarten. I started with two delaware hens and then purchased five more chickens. Next thing I knew, I was buying 16 more chickens...
Actually I've broken their bad habbit 2 times...
Please tell me how you did this and if I ever have the problem with mine I will try it because I was never told any ideas about how to break them from this.....the idea of getting rid of one of my birds makes me want to cry
When I was a kid we had a hen that kept eating her eggs and well, any egg that was not picked up or was left unattended for any length of time. We eventually had to have an early morning watch to find the culprit.
I would say try and find out who your 'egg eater' is and either sell, give away...
I am doing the waiting game with my girls and am excited to say that one has really become interested in the next boxes. I just hope the rest of them follow suit and don't decide to lay in the weeds somewhere! Sooo anxious....
My son has decided he wants to raise some ducks and I am thinking of getting him a pair or four Pekins. I have no clue about ducks as I have never raised them and know no one personally that does. I want him to start with young ones as this is his first 4H project. Beyond the fact that they are...
